Major U.S. banks sought government permission to bring thousands of foreign workers into the country for high-paying jobs even as the system was melting down last year and Americans were getting laid off, according to an Associated Press review of visa applications.
The dozen banks now receiving the biggest rescue packages, totaling more than $150 billion, requested visas for more than 21,800 foreign workers over the past six years for positions that included senior vice presidents, corporate lawyers, junior investment analysts and human resources specialists.
The average annual salary for those jobs was $90,721, nearly twice the median income for all American households.
As the economic collapse worsened last yearwith huge numbers of bank employees laid off the numbers of visas sought by the dozen banks in AP's analysis increased by nearly one-third, from 3,258 in the 2007 budget year to 4,163 in fiscal 2008.
Thanks for the tip.

Yes but you are not supposed to say this...sh...it’s not about money. After all Americans just suck in general...
Cheers!
Right or have foreign workers shipped into the US to take good paying jobs away from Americans. I have seen this first hand at sprint...one of my second jobs. One Friday, American workers out the door...sad. On Monday,Indian H1B visa worker arrived.
Point me to posters on FR who are supporting the bail outs. I have a job, so I don’t live on line. Maybe I’ve missed them? Maybe I’m not hanging out with the right crowd?
It seems to me that the people that ended up cleaning up in the financial mess were the traders that bet against the bubble.
Good on...you are right. If this guy hates Americans so much why not move to India?
Printed classified are on the way out.
It's going to be a bad show if we try to match Chinese and Bangladeshi comp scales dollar for dollar.
But hey, if you're in the corner office playing numbers games, it's just a number. Whaddayamean, your kids are hungry? You mind not bringing personal problems into my workspace?
Prayers up for ya, I've been unemployed before during the 1st outsourcing craze post 9-11, and it sucked.
Cheers!
Sure...they support the bonuses-taxpayer money...for bailed out companies. There are tons of threads. I’ll look for some.
Funny and sad at the same time...you are exactly right.
Well my wife spent ages trying the online stuff and did not get one bite. She eventually went to an agency and got a job...This was in Georgia. Online bites too...maybe there are not many jobs right now you think?
Also, the top execs and CEO’s need to remain-there is a thread about this also...so much talent after all...driving a company like Citi into the ground took much talent, I’m sure.
Thanks Grey!
Actually I haven’t done that yet. My best guys are the guys in their 50s that know how to fabricate. But they are few and far between. Executive level guys area actually much worse, and while they don’t need a degree (I dont have one), they are the biggest pre-madonnas you will ever see. It is like this at many companies. Not many Americans put their heart into the business anymore like they used to. Take offense if you want, but it is true.
And FYI a college degree is a detriment to me, because it means you followed the rules to get there, and rarely if ever shows a person with independent ability.

What does that make the corporate HR people? Big brothers big brother? Where did HR come from anyway?
Hint: Autobiographical.
