Washington D.C. (AHN) - While the president tries to rally bipartisan support for passing legislation, liberal groups are striking back at one of the Republican's most influential leaders, Rush Limbaugh.
The liberal group, Americans United for Change is set to launch radio ads in three states Obama won - Ohio, Pennsylvania and Nevada - that poses a new controversial question to GOP senators, asking, "Will you side with Obama or Rush Limbaugh?"
"Every Republican member of the House chose to take Rush Limbaugh's advice," the narrator says while playing a clip of Rush Limbaugh saying he hopes Obama "fails."
"Every Republican voted with Limbaugh - and against creating 4 million new American jobs. We can understand why a extreme partisan like Rush Limbaugh wants President Obama's Jobs program to fail - but the members of Congress elected to represent the citizens in their districts? That's another matter. Will our Senator side with Rush Limbaugh too?"
Asked to respond to the advertisement, Limbaugh had a message for his party and other Senate Republicans targeted.
"Senate Republicans need to understand this is not about me. It is about them, about intimidating them, especially after the show of unity in House. It is about the 2010 and 2012 elections. This is an opportunity for Republicans to redefine themselves after a few years of wandering aimlessly looking for a 'brand' and identity."
The ad, which is generating some controversy among conservatives, is being defended by Democratic strategists like Brad Woodhouse, who is overseeing the campaign, as a way to call attention to House Republicans "deciding to play politics rather than do the right thing."
Meanwhile, as their allies take to the airwaves, President Obama and advisers are busy on the phone and in closed-door meetings with House and Senate Republicans trying to shore up support on both sides of the congressional aisle.
So far, it seems Senate Republicans will be more open to the stimulus package than House GOP members, who did not cast a single vote in favor of the proposal.
"We're in a little different spot than the House in that we have a handful of Republicans who have all but committed to supporting the package," one Senate aide said on condition of anonymity.
Rush is Right ping
This is a great time for all those that have FACEBOOK to include Rush Limbaughs page. I signed up to Rush and now all of my friends on facebook HAVE to read what comes over. Let’s show some support to what Rush is trying hard to do and God knows we need some heros right now...not zeros!
More cliches, that's all they have.
This isn’t a bailout, its a free for all for Left Wing self interest groups. It won’t create any new jobs, it will only serve to destroy jobs, and weaken the American dollar more.
“’We’re in a little different spot than the House in that we have a handful of Republicans who have all but committed to supporting the package,’ one Senate aide said on condition of anonymity.”
It never ceases to annoy me how gossipy reporters are. If I were a journalist and a source refused to go on the record without anonimity, I’d tell him to go suck rope. Then I’d
probably be fired for having nothing to write about. But what’s better, I ask, less news or more gossip? Cause if you ask me, we’ve had enough “news” in the last couple decades (since the “news cycle” went 24-7) to fill a whole century.
Will the ads air on Air America? :}
Just another MoveOn.org/Soros front.
“Armchair Republican strategists like Me, who is overseeing his own thoughts, wishes to call attention to Democrats everywhere ‘deciding to play politics rather than do the right thing,’ i.e. leaving the economy alone to right itself instead of wasting more and more money.”
Two can play at that game.
I truly wish that I had some good news for you on that point. Sadly, both of the Senators from my state are Socialists.
The nerve was struck and moonbats are hemorrhaging money to swat El Rushbo.
He is goading them to take him on and fight the Fairness Doctrine battle. I would love to see his hole cards
Classic misdirection. The Republicans have not taken anyones advice, much less followed Rush. They have done the right thing. The pathetic whining liberals are having a toddler temper fit because the Republicans are not kissing their azz.
Idiots!
They have to pay for their ads (I guess), while Rush gets paid (very well) to tell the truth.
They are shooting spitballs at a battleship.
GO RUSH GO
The Left strikes back all the time. In fact, they never shut up. Even though they should.
“if the wackos keep this up, Rush will get his TV show back”
You made me laugh.
Does anybody ever learn anything?
The “DUH” in the room is: “Why do the dems care so much whether the GOP congressmen voted for the bill or not since they can obviously pass it without them?” They shut the GOP out of the process to begin with and then complain when the GOP doesn’t vote on the bill???? DUH.
