Reports are circulating that cast an unflattering light on the miracle mom who gave birth to octuplets in California Monday.
CBS News reported Friday that the mother of eight newborns, who already had six children, filed for bankruptcy and abandoned her home less than two years ago. She hasn't been identified publicly yet, though CBS News described her as a woman in her 30s who lives with her parents.

Britain's Sun newspaper reported that the mother works in a fertility clinic. The grandmother said she had multiple embryos implanted last year and declined to abort any of them.

Works in a fertility clinic. Whoa. An inside job, embezzling gametes.
Hey maybe she was smuggling them out and...oops!
I don't see that. I see a stupid slant that both the mother and clinic have taken leave of their senses if she , the mother of six, received "help" to become pregnant.
I think that is quite likely and may explain why she is being secretive.
Wonder what sort of work the father or grandfather does, going back to Iraq presumably to earn more than he could in the US. Most move in the opposite direction to increase their earning potential.
As long as you’re not robbing my family to support the kids, have at it.
Certainly after 6, the couple should have left any more blessings in God’s hands.
Very true. But, ironically, we can trace the modern-day acceptance of homosexuality and "same-sex marriage" to heterosexual couples using surrogates or implanted seed from strangers. Of course, I don't know the whole story in this woman's case. Who knows how reliable the sources for this article are?
If he works for an American company doing contract work with the US gov't, he's probably earning a load of hazard pay and getting a lot more $$ than our soldiers get.
Guess she wanted to out do Jon and Kate + 8!~ Next a tv show with all sorts of sponsor support. Maybe we should boycott sponsors of those shows?
Kids are wonderful but in today’s society, how will this couple support 14 kids and some of the little ones may have health issues..good lord..and they have twins I think..wonder if they did the fertility thing before. At least the Duggers with some 18 kids are self supporting though they are featured on TV and I suppose get some $$ from that too.
Good point!
That would be "Ed Suleman"...a fine old Irish name indeed.
So now they are saying she worked at a fertility clinic and had embryos implanted?
I never knew employees of fertility clinics got to take samples home.
Wonder how she managed to “work” with 6 kids under age 7 already at home.
Something is bizarre about this whole situation.
Whatever he is, he apparently isn’t some traditional Iraqi Muslim. Having an adult daughter (possibly single) living with her parents, working at a fertility clinic AFTER having 6 children (who knows how?) and taking fertility drugs to produce more, wouldn’t jive with that. Of course, it doesn’t jive with ANYTHING . . .
This is one of those situations where saying “there must be more to the story” is a mind-boggling understatement.
If the mother had octuplets naturally, I'd give her a partial pass -- she just got extremely unlucky with another pregnancy (although after six kids she should have used some reliable method of birth control). And as long as those fourteen kids did not become a burden on taxpayers, I'd say that it was her problem and nobody else's business.
But the reality is likely to be far different. The odds of having octuplets without fertility drugs are virtually zero. No reputable doctor or clinic would administer fertility drugs to a woman who already had six kids, so she probably stole the drugs and self-medicated.
Indeed, every possible scenario involving fertility drugs points to this woman as being monstously irresponsible. And if she's that irresponsible about something as important as conceiving children, then it's not surprising if she has also been irresponsible about other life decisions and financial matters.
"Reports Cast Octuplets' Mother in Less-Flattering Light" is probably the understatement of 2009.
Note: We do not actually know that any doctor administered fertility drugs or provided any form of fertility treatment to this woman. If she worked at a fertility clinic (even as a cleaning lady), she could easily have stolen drugs, and if she took quantities that are normally intended only for IVF (IOW that can cause large numbers of eggs to mature simultaneously), and then got pregnant either naturally or by self-insemination with some donor’s sperm, she could have pulled off this bizarre stunt without anyone’s knowledge.
Most reputable clinics would probably agree to provide fertility drugs to a woman who already had six children, but they would not participate in an insemination (and would strongly counsel against doing it the natural way) when ultrasounds and blood tests showed a large number of eggs maturing, nor would they transfer more than a couple of embryos in an IVF procedure.
It’s really not a doctor’s or clinic’s business to decide a woman shouldn’t have more children, unless they have knowledge that the children she already has are not being properly cared for. But it IS their business not to aid and abet procedures that pose a huge medical risk to both the mother and babies. However, there’s not a whole lot they can do about it if a client is counseled in advance that a stimulated IUI cycle must be cancelled if too many eggs mature, and the idiot woman still goes home and does the deed with her husband/boyfriend or inseminates herself with some random donor’s sperm. They can’t hold women prisoner to prevent them from doing something stupid and dangerous.
That’s possible; we’ll know soon because an investigation is in progress.
” ...you and me and the rest of the country are going to end up supporting those 14 kids.”
Think they’re in the UK where socialized medicine is already in place
I’m glad to hear there’s some investigation. Where did you hear that? Is it a law enforcement investigation? Or the ASRM or SART (self-regulatory bodies for assisted reportductive tech)? Or CPS?
