State lawmakers cut Florida's budget by more than $2.5 billion during their recently-completed special session, but Gov. Charlie Crist has vetoed almost a quarter of the spending reductions.

About $90 million that would have been cut from the budget is being spared.

Items that Crist vetoed, meaning they will stay in the budget, include:

Here in Monroe County Florida (the Florida Keys), we get the money from a hotel bed tax.

Never heard of that tax before, is that like the hotel pimp and ho bed tax?

$600,000 for the Florida National Guard tuition assistance and body armor

What pieces of S’s wanted to cut this?

As for the other pork that Cristie vetoed - he is another example of the enemy within.

International vacationers ... most of the folks around the Mouse House have accents these days. They are the only ones with the dollars because of the favorable exchange rates. A good chunk of the state income comes from tourism.

No offense taken at all my friend. The budget is only balanced because the state constitution requires it every year. I’m sure the Sunshine State would be billions more in the hole otherwise.

Yeah, I was glad to see he left that in. I’m sure the guardsmen are too.

Just for the record, 90 million divided by 2500 million equals .036 or 3.6%.

Food stamps for all the illegal aliens in FL. Charlie is a RINO with RINO pals of Juan McCain, Mel “Scarface” Martinez, and Miss Lindsay Graham-nesty.

I am suprised that sassy southern belle Miss Lindsay is not mad at Charlie for “breach of promise.”

This reporter needs to learn math. Vetoing 90 million out of 2.5 billion is not a QUARTER of the reductions.

In fact, it is under 4 percent. He didn’t even veto 5 percent of the reductions...

That means 96 percent of the cuts roughly will STAY....

In other words, instead of being cut by 2.5 billion, 2.4 billion will be cut.

I am for calling people a RINO when deserving it, but how is this a RINO?

He is supporting drastic cuts.

Considering the mass layoffs for teachers in Florida right now, I can understand keeping that even though not liking it.

That's the way I read it. Sometimes the wording of such things throws people off.

I went to the Mouse House once...during Spring Break. Won’t ever do it again. It was like the continuous running of the Indy 500 only with no booze or cars but with a lot of kids.

I spent most of my time fighting foreigners to keep them from cutting in line.

Crist stopped budget cuts. He's a good GOP Democrat

"I would be thrilled if my Governor (AHHHHNOLD) cut $2.40 out of the budget."

Crist’s sisters are school administrators. He’s big for teachers’ unions. He’s huge for green projects that Floridians can’t afford.

What, you didn't value their cultural norms and thank God for the chance to experience the diversity? :)

NO you get a grip. He is allowing these pork items in the budget. The only item I agree should be vetoed ie. spared from being cut, is the tiny item for our Vet heroes.

Items that Crist vetoed, meaning they will stay in the budget, include:

$29 million for teachers, autism education and Florida School for the Deaf and Blind
$23 million for food stamps, disability agencies, mental health and substance abuse treatment
$16 million to keep 118 probation officers working, as well as substance abuse and guardian ad litem programs
The Florida Forever land conservation program will be fully funded instead of being suspended
$22 million for tourism and Visit Florida marketing
