Mayhaps they win the *battle* today, but when this porkulus bill gets passed (and please God let the republicans stand fast as a group and vote NO!) and starts putrefying in public in very short order, then people like Rush, etc. can put the blame squarely where it stands—on HolyO and his far left loonies running congress right now!!
Mark my words, this thing is gonna come back and bite HolyO in the butt!!!
Obey is a known liar.
I just called John Mica’s office (my rep) - he’ll vote against it- but he has never cast a vote I’ve disagreed with- so I expected him to vote against this. A young fellow answered the phone- I told him he has no idea what’s coming if/when this gets passed. He laughed and said lots of callers tell him this will make Jimmy Carter look conservative!
Yahoo News is reporting
Divided US House to hand Obama stimulus win
the only way they can do that is if they have someone with a big enough set to do a REAL fillibuster and not just threaten it.
I’m not holding my breath.
I say call his bluff. He wants this pork barrel, let his 'Rats vote for it. They've got the numbers. Let them take the responsibility. Then hang them on it if it fails. If it works, they can have the credit. No cover for the 'Rats. Call the roll and record the votes. Let the 'Rats vote yea, the 'Pubs vote no, and walk out.
I called David Drier’s office and gave the guy there a piece of my mind. I live about a block from his Congressional district though so I used my buddies address in Upland to add a little more weight to my call.
I also called my Congress-critter Joe Bacca (D) and told him that it wasn’t going to do crap to stimulate the economy. If they want to stimulate the economy tell everyone they don’t have to pay income taxes for one year.
GOP substitute plan to be voted on shortly
Mike Pence has the floor!
If only the republicans and the rinos will have the gonads to circle the wagons!!! I would love to see them all get up and walk out en masse—without voting at all!!! Can’t they just do the HolyO thing and vote “Present”?!?
Then let’s see their holy leader try to pin the failure of this porkulus bill on the minority party! Ha!
I just made my token call to Al Green (D-TX) knowing that it fell on deaf ears. Being the lone conservative reed in a district of “leftist diversity”, the aide sounded stunned when she repeated, “you want him to vote no?”. I could use a glass of Mylanta right about now.
Boehner up, on the GOP plan.
I’ve urged my (D) rep to vote no, too. Doubt it will do any good ... he must be getting some similar input, though. Here’s an update from his webpage:
Washington, DC Today, Congressman Frank Kratovil voted twice to strip wasteful spending form a proposed economic stimulus package that the House is planning to take up tomorrow afternoon.
First, Congressman Kratovil voted against the rule that establishes the process by which the stimulus package will be considered on the House floor. Congressman Kratovil was one of 16 Democrats who voted against this rule.
The Congressman then voted against a measure designating the stimulus legislation as an emergency, thereby allowing the legislation to avoid Pay-Go requirements. Pay-Go requires that all expenditures are somehow offset in order to keep budgets balanced and not saddle our children and grandchildren with even higher levels of national debt. Congressman Kratovil was one of 27 Democrats to vote against the emergency designation.
Congressman Kratovil released the following statement today about his efforts to rein in spending.
A stimulus package of this unimaginable size needs to be met with the reality that a recovery and reinvestment plan is an extraordinary response to an extraordinary crisis. It is not an opportunity to abandon fiscal discipline in lieu wasteful spending. The plan includes projects to the tune of $200 million to rebuild the National Mall and $50 million in funding for the National Endowment of the Arts. Although these may be admirable causes, they certainly are not emergencies and should not be lumped in with legitimate efforts to strengthen our economy and get people back to work. Our economy is in crisis, and its going to take a combination of tough choices and fiscal responsibility to give it the boost it needs.
-Rep. Frank Kratovil
McCotter speaking now.
“The packages current incarnation calls for roughly two-thirds to be in the form of new spending on everything from unemployment aid to construction projects, with the rest consisting of tax cuts for individuals and businesses.”
That’s a media lie.
This is about 80% prok-barrel general govt spending increases, especially a ‘downpayment’ on socialized medicine and pork barrel spending for energy and other pet liberal projects. Then it has a small slice for infrastructure (suprisingly small given how the people were led to believe this was all about ‘infrastructure’).
Then it has a bunch of giveaways to people who dont pay taxes in the form of tax ‘credits’, that are mislabelled ‘tax cuts’. Better it is called ‘free money’.
Zero real incentives for work. Billions for bigger govt. And not much at all that could be called ‘stimulus’.
Awesome graphic on bipartisanship!
“Also the one long RAT member of our delegation, Dan Boren, said the bill contains a lot of unnecessary items but he is going to follow his conscience and vote NO! What a lie, he is following the Pelosi line.”
Do you mean ‘yes’ there?
“We need to find someone from NE Oklahoma that can take out Boren in the next election.”
Great idea.
“Any Republican voting yes on this pork Obama/Pelosi stimulus package needs defeated in the next election.”
YUP. This should be unanimous GOP opposition to this bad bill.
I will see how Lamar Smith is doing.
LOL - “PORKULUS”
I call it the TRILLION DOLLAR GROW-THE-GOVT BOONDOGGLE BILL.
The issue is not ‘what pork is in this bill?’ the question is “What pork is NOT in this bill?” This is a roll-up of EVERY bad liberal pet project and pork barrel spending idea they ever came up with! This is a Christmas Tree of massive overspending.
I just called his office. To correct the record, here is what I was told: Congressman Dreier is against the stimulus bill and has been on the floor of the House speaking out against the bill. He doesnt have a written statement because he’s been on the floor today.
I doubt there will be a lot of Republican votes for the bill.
