House GOP leader to Rush: Back off By: Jonathan Martin January 27, 2009 04:32 PM EST

Rush Limbaugh may command a large following, but his caustic comments Monday about the GOP’s congressional leadership have one of the House’s leading conservatives defending his colleagues and offering an unusually candid critique of the talk radio powerhouse and his fellow commentators.

Responding to President Obama’s recommendation to Republican congressional leaders last week that they not follow Limbaugh’s lead, the conservative talkmeister said on his show that Obama is “obviously more frightened of me than he is Mitch McConnell. He's more frightened of me, than he is of, say, John Boehner, which doesn't say much about our party."

Rep. Tom Price, who heads the conservative Republican Study Committee, did not take kindly to this assessment in an interview with Politico Tuesday.

“I think that our leadership, Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, are taking the right approach,” Price said. “I mean, it’s easy if you’re Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh or even sometimes Newt Gingrich to stand back and throw bricks. You don’t have to try to do what’s best for your people and your party. You know you’re just on these talk shows and you’re living well and plus you stir up a bit of controversy and gin the base and that sort of that thing. But when it comes to true leadership, not that these people couldn’t be or wouldn’t be good leaders, they’re not in that position of John Boehner or Mitch McConnell.

To be fair, it looks like Geithner passed muster on party lines 60-39, or something like that.

Sometimes I think the GOP is just an elitist right wing herding machine running us off the socialist cliff with the left. I really believe they tried to trip Sarah because she is not Ivy League (leftist) trained.

I agree; the Politico is a DNC/0bama propaganda organ. I question anything it prints and the bias is palpable.

Not that I basically disagree with conservatives here who believe the GOP failed conservatism. I just won’t fall for Politico’s bait.

"Rep. Tom Price, who heads the conservative Republican Study Committee, did not take kindly to this assessment in an interview with Politico Tuesday."

One more arrogant Republican that needs to lose an election so that we can move foreward. - Enough of these clowns and their legislative bafflegab explanations of their embrace of Satan.

“to stand back and throw bricks. You don’t have to try to do what’s best for your people and your party.”

Problem is, Mr. Price...we can’t figure out who ‘your people’ are these days! Think about the country before ‘your’ party for a change, PLEASE.

“As for future elections, if the GOP continues to prop up such POOR EXCUSES for Candidates... My vote and I will be going FISHING!!!”

Boy do I know how you feel—I sometimes I just feel like being a turtle, ostrich, etc. but it won’t make a better country for my children. Really need a CONSERVATIVE PARTY. It is time & if Republican party is now home only to Rhinos (RINOS) who are going to rollover on their backs and join the MSM in their adoration of the new administration, I think the conservative elephants need to find a new watering hole starting now for 2010.

Oh & we can find a new animal logo too :)

He may not have noticed that the number of Republican colleagues he has in the House has dwindled. And they will dwindle more if he and his friends don't show more leadership and effectiveness in battling the most left-wing agenda in modern history. And they won't continue to lose because of me, but because of their relationship with the grassroots, which is hurting. Conservatives want leadership from those who claim to represent them. And we'll know it when we see it.”

Bing!! As unusual, Rush is right!!

Outland to GOP:

Get real, grown a spine, become conservatives, kill socialist agendas.

Or kiss my $$ good bye.

Well said. Once again, the headline doesn’t match the content. Politico is just another DNC cheerleading outlet of the MSM. It’s amazing how many people on this thread fall for this trick and senselessly start bashing the GOP, accusing them of being traitors who are trying to silence Rush.

I just called and spoke to a nice young woman. She claims that it was a misquote and not even said by the Congressman.

She also said that they are “working to correct it.”

His 'people' are RINOs. With this attitude, there will be more loses for the GOP in 2010. I was hoping 2008 got rid of all the RINOs --guess not.
