The first captain called the room to attention. After introducing the superintendent, he announced, Ladies and gentlemen, the 43rd president of the United States! The auditorium filled with a deafening applause, much louder than the rather tepid response to the speech he had just concluded.
The president quickly motioned for us to sit down. His demeanor was far different than the one Id seen on camera hundreds of times before this man clearly was not comfortable being a politician. Far from the stiff that hed always been when reporters were around, he seemed relaxed, excited, almost like a kid on Christmas.
The next two hours were inspiring, amazing, and ultimately very revealing about who the commander-in-chief really was and what he really believed....

“I understand all that. But what Im talking about here is managing perceptions, and Pres. Bush did a lousy job of that.”

REALLY?!
REALITY CHECK:
1.) It took the MSM exactly 1 month to destroy Reagan’s supposed heir apparent: George Allen. And they did this in a state for which Allen had been both a popular governor and senator.
2.) It took the MSM less than one month to destroy Sarah Palin’s standing with almost 55% of the electorate (polls put her current favorability rating at 40-45%) vs the approximately 70% favorability rating she enjoyed immediately after the Republican Convention.
[Let’s see, how long did it take Clinton, et al, to destroy Gingrich?]
BOTTON LINE: Currently, the MSM in combination with ALL the other purveyors of our culture, e.g., the K-12/university education system, the entertainment industry, the publishing industry, and so on, can destroy a Republican running for or sitting in a NATIONAL office any time they chose. [Until we achieve approximal parity vis a vis the MSM/cultural purveyors, our national candidates will continue to struggle.]
It’s actually a testament to President Bush’s formidable political skills that within this climate he managed to both win re-election AND remain the most powerful force in Washington during his last two years (even though Democrats controlled the Congress).
Okay, you want to get the pertinent facts correct? I notice you forgot to mention all the RINOS in Congress who voted with the liberals.
Being from Ohio, I’ve had the opportunity to speak with and listen to President Bush on many, many occasions and during 99.9% of these occasions his communication skills were amazing! HOWEVER, as I mentioned in an earlier post, there’s not much he can do when the MSM decides either to ignore his speaking engagements completely or to highlight the gaffes exclusively — mucaca (sic) any one?! [Obama’s had a bizzilion gaffes over the last year and a half — has the MSM highlighted any of them? ‘nuf said.]
Thank you for the ping to this ‘insightful’ commentary!!
Of all his presidential duties, [being commander-in-chief] suited Bill Clinton the least, and he was never able to shake his image of someone who would never be accepted by those in his command ...Some even noticed that when Clinton was president, Marine guards failed to execute a right face to stand facing his back as he walked away.
The Marines somehow relearned this maneuver on January 20, 2001, when the new commander-in-chief, President George W. Bush, took office.Barbara Olson, The Final Days
LOL!
Smiling BUMP!
Time to unlearn it again.
Wonderful sketch, jonny.
this is moving jonny! thanks for ping!
Thanks for the ping Wolfstar
You're welcome Kaslin. :)
Thanks jonny for sharing the picture with us
LOL! Those are some great pictures, and what wonderful memories for those graduates! President Bush was not a stuffy man, like That One seems to be.
Hi jonny ...... ;) We know what president clinton thought of our fantastic military. And he’s unfit to tie one of their shoelaces.
Very provocative drawing.
That was the work of the MSM suffering from BDS. Anyone with half a brain knows that the WORST thing for the President to have done was to try to tour the area within the first few days after the storm, especially after the flooding! Just think of the nightmare for anyone trying to do rescues or evacuations with all of the security surrounding a Presidential visit. The MSM got up a head of steam with their criticism, and just wouldn't let go.
The Federal response was as good as it could have been, under the circumstances, considering the fact that they weren't given the go-ahead to even enter the city until the problems that were being reported in the media were sorted out, and much of the stuff that was being reported were lies, or exaggerations, FEMA was left holding the bag, when the State and City dropped their responsibilities right in FEMA's lap, but the MSM never reported that, because it didn't fit into their 'bash Bush for any reason' plan.
May God bless and keep him and Lady Laura. How I miss them, but not the hateful words of the press and Dims against them.
My favorite one was when Bush threw out the first ball for the World Series in Yankee Stadium.
There he was in a crowd of hundreds of thousands of people .. standing on the mound - totally alone - ripe for a sniper - and you never saw him sweat one drop.
Bush loved baseball and I believe it was his dream to pitch a game in the World Series. And .. there he was living his dream while showing America that we would never cower or live in fear.
I shed a few tears that night .. at his remarkable courage.
But I can say without any reservation whatsoever that I will miss him greatly.
Best to you,
L
