WASHINGTON President Barack Obama met face-to-face Tuesday with congressional Republicans who have been chafing over parts of a $825 billion plan to pull the country out of recession, and he urged lawmakers to "keep politics to a minimum" and quickly approve the measure.
"The statistics every day underscore the urgency of the economic situation. The American people expect action," the new Democratic president said in brief remarks between private meetings with House and Senate Republicans at the Capitol. "I don't expect 100 percent agreement from my Republican colleagues, but I do hope that we can all put politics aside and do the American people's business right now."
The president made his first trip to Capitol Hill since his inauguration a week ago, aides said, to listen to concerns from Republicans who have been threatening to oppose the measure over what they call insufficient tax cuts and excessive spending.

They are looking for political cover for their upcoming failure.
Obama, GOP lawmakers meet face to face on stimulus
And McCain gives him a big sloppy tongue kiss!
Obama is such a great man , above all the personal politics, so presidential, such a great leader.
What a con man!!
This isn’t a economic stimulus package, and thats the basis for the Republicans to refuse to be a part of it.
Every one of them should voted against it, and then let the new President and the leftwingnuts controlling congress take full ‘credit’ for what will result.
That's exactly right. And the Republicans are idiots if they can't figure it out.
“Keep politics to a minimum.”
The whole gigantic money trough bill is pure politics! It’s designed to keep the dems in power forever! Typical socialist rhetoric; accuse your opponent of what you are doing.
but I do hope that we can all put politics aside= till I get what I want then screw you.
Well...that settles it, they'll vote for it then.
Politics is already “at a maximum”, thanks to this Democrat Party Recovery Act
yes they are idiots if they vote for this but they are hardly being pressured are they into not voting for it.
I mean I doubt they come on to websites like this or listen much to talk radio.
I said this in an earlier thread.
We need e-mail alerts where we all on here target the senators who are vulnerable, Dem or republican.
We work with Rush , Hannity , Laura etc and we then bombard those senators(enough to vote against it)
Mailing our own senators is not doing anything right now as they probably receive what 40 a day where as if we had e-mails alerts saying who to target then we would get a couple of thousands in a couple of days easy.
That is if we do it the same time as the radio talk show hosts who tell their listeners to call.
If we were organised like that the GOP would have to listen and we don’t have to just target republicans but Dems as well even saying you yourself is an independent or even a Dem
Not like they will know is it?
At the moment we have some of us calling our senators who will vote against anyway where as the likes of the RINO’s and red dog Dems would feel pressured getting a few thousand calls and mail a day
Exactly!
I emailed my congressman, Gene Taylor, a member of the Blue Dog Coalition. I don’t think it would hurt to contact all of them. Here’s their website:

Remove funding for ACORN, Barry.
:::::::::::::
This is his favorite criminal vote-getting operation. Did much him this election, I am sure. A pure criminal operation.
Gene Taylor needs to switch parties.
"....but I do hope that we can all put politics aside and do the American people's business right now."
How positively 'Clintonesque'!!
Don't ask the difficult questions, don't analyze the program, ignore the man behind the curtain...just go along, I need to get back to the work for the American people.
Nevermind that the stimulus bills presented thus far set forth more 'pork' for ACORN, more 'earmarks' for Dems' supporters. But a true stimulus bill is not forthcoming from this Dems controlled Congress/Administration.
