Obama Interview Signals New Tone in Relations With Islam
New York Times ^ | 01/27/2009 | ALAN COWELL

PARIS — In one of his first interviews since taking office, President Barack Obama struck a conciliatory tone toward the Islamic world, saying he wanted to persuade Muslims that “the Americans are not your enemy” and adding that “the moment is ripe for both sides” to negotiate in the Middle East.

I’m betting thats exactly what will occur. As we are seeing, the leftwingnuts in Congress are performing exactly as predicted.

Conyers issued another subpeona for Rove, for example. Gun control measures are being revived. Exporting of the most controversial domestic policy we have, abortion.

Its laying the groundwork for a major asskicking for the Democrats in 2010...if the GOP can get out of its own way.

Thats where my doubts lay today. With the GOP, I know what the Democrats will do.

The problem in ‘negotiating’ with Iran or Syria is that these entities are tyrannical dictatorships. By simply acknowledging them, the US becomes an active participant in the oppression of their peoples. This is not my argument. This is the argument I heard from the left all through the 70’s and 80’s as they worked to undermine my pride and patriotism in America.

And, to be honest, the argument really worked on me.

How can the US hold itself up to some lofty human rights standard when it does business with oppressive dictators? It can’t.

This fact alone is why I strongly supported the invasion of Iraq. Now, when the US talks to Iraqi leaders, they are true representatives of the Iraqi people. And, in dealiong with these elected leaders we do not participate in oppression, we instead celebrate the dignity of the Iraqi people as both countries work through agreements and disagreements alike.

The bottom line is: President Obama can extend the hand of friendship to the Iranian dictators if he wants. However, he and his supporters must realize we will be actively setting back human rights in that country (and other places in the world) with every photo-op, treaty, or handshake.

This is what the political left taught me in the 70’s and 80’s....when they used to have principles.

This piss ant continues to urinate on the Constitution and our soldiers and veterans. The moral in Iraq right now in regard to US soldiers must be a little low. They’re fighting 2 enemies...Muslims and the US Government.

“Factor in educators dumbing down our youth to the point that they no longer understand or appreciate the concepts of freedom and liberty, and you have the perfect storm for this sort of complacency.”

You are 100% correct. We allowed the public schools to fall into the hands of the left, and didn’t fight them. We just ran off to private schools, or home schooling. Now we have 3+ generations of mush heads totally incapable of critical thought.

Complacency is one of the latter stages of the demise of a democracy. There is no doubt in my mind that the American Republic is dying. But, we have ourselves to blame.

That's a pretty big "IF" and, quite frankly, just not likely to happen. The GOP is impotent, and has been for some time now.

Who would think a guy with the middle name of Hussein would be muslim friendly? How many people does anyone know that started with the anglicized name of Barry Sartoro, changes his name to Bararka Hussein Obama and claims he is not muslim. I challenge anyone to find another such person.

Every new president starts out using a ‘new tone’ with Islam. It’s as predictable as tomorrow morning’s sunrise. And the course from there on is just as predictable!

Both sides have to want something in order for it to happen. Even if one side has to be forced to want it. Even if one side or the other wants it because the alternatives are so very unpleasant. It’s much better to get along because you respect each other and the mutual peace is good for both of you. OTOH, it’s just as effective if the other side is scared to death of you and thinks you are a nut case.

Obama is the new kid in the prison yard and he just went up to the big boys and said, “Lets get friendly”

And he just got his back tattooed.

re: Because MSM WILL NOT replay the event

It’s not even a matter of a replay. For the most part they declined to carry any accounts of the true terror of that day. If they would show pictures from 9/11 as readily as they show pictures from Gaza, showing the poor, oppressed Palestinians it would make Americans remember what was done to us and the way we felt on 9/12.

On the surface their refusal to do so is said to be out of respect for the victims and their families. BS, the real reason is that they know the effect it would have on the drivel that comes from them and the rest of the Left day after day, week after week, etc.

appease: 1. to bring to a state of peace, quiet, ease, calm, or contentment; pacify; soothe: to appease an angry king. 2. to satisfy, allay, or relieve; assuage: The fruit appeased his hunger. 3. to yield or concede to the belligerent demands of (a nation, group, person, etc.) in a conciliatory effort, sometimes at the expense of justice or other principles.

Oh ok, now I understand, Obambi has no principles>/p>

Yep, those of us with the ability to discern were sounding the alarm loud and clear during the campaign period. Too late now.
