Rove subpoenaed by Conyers By: John Bresnahan and Andy Barr January 26, 2009 06:31 PM EST

House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.) has subpoenaed Karl Rove, the former top political advisor to President George W. Bush, to question what Rove knows about “politicization” of the Justice Department.

The Senate Judiciary Committee had subpoenaed Rove during the last Congress, but relying on an executive privilege claim by Bush, Rove refused to appear.

Conyers had previously subpoenaed former White House Counsel Harriet Miers and Josh Bolten, Bush former White House chief of staff, seeking any information they had. Conyers is also seeking White House documents related to the firing of nine U.S. attorneys.

After the White House refused to comply with the subpoenas, and Miers refused to even appear before the committee to answer the subpoena, the House Judiciary Committee sued. A federal judge backed the committee in a major win for Conyers and House Democrats, but resolution of the case has been delayed by the changeover in administrations. President Obama has vowed to comply with congressional subpoenas.

“I have said many times that I will carry this investigation forward to its conclusion, whether in Congress or in court, and today’s action is an important step along the way,” Conyers said.

Rove has until Feb. 2 to respond to the subpoena.

Conyers added: “Change has come to Washington, and I hope Karl Rove is ready for it. After two years of stonewalling, it’s time for him to talk.”

‘.....it’s time for him to talk.”’

It’s time for patriotic Americans to talk! Calls to Pelosi, Conyers and the White House to stop wasting tax payer money on unwarranted investigations. Enough!

Where in the Constitution does it say that congress has the right to investigate and subpoena private citizens, which is a judicial power? Simply because congress arrogated such power to itself at some point in the past, and it's gone unchallenged by a complacent populace, doesn't mean it's constitutional.

Which of the "Rapings" of our country do we stand up and call our Boston Tea Party?

Openly standing behind Rove in this could be a catalyst for "Enough is Enough"????

We need millions of people to do it together, something I doubt will ever happen. I just don't believe in the American people anymore, Right or Left or in between.

What is this whole thing about? I mean what happened, when to get this to here? I don’t recall hearing anything about this and if you aren’t in on the beginning of something like this you never figure it out unless you ask someone. I learned that during Water Gate. And, while you are at it, if you know, why are they doing this?

How does this work? What if Rove refuses to appear?

The Dims will hold him in contempt of congress. Since congress is not the judiciary, they have zero power to arrest people, or incarcerate them, or even fine them, so being held in contempt of congress seems to be a toothless threat. Besides, millions of Americans hold congress in contempt on a daily basis.

I know we have been asleep at the wheel...I like my life..nice home, a couple cars, a wife and kid...I have been asleep, but I have a very strong itch now that "Enough is Enough"...(Hence why I quit lurking FR in November when I saw the on coming train wreck).

Alone, I do not consider myself an opposing Giant, but together with those like me, which is much more than then the MSM will lead us to believe, I can honestly say they will regret waking the "Sleeping" Giant. (And yes, I am ashamed for being asleep and complacent).

Don't worry. You are in on the beginning. Conyers is trying to criminalize Bush administration policy. This is the way communists eliminate their enemies, and we should truly not lose sight of the fact that most American Leftists are, in fact, bona fide communists.

I genuinely believe we are in the early days of an attempt by the Left to overturn our Constitutional form of government.

Nailed it. This is exactly what is happening and its going to get worse. Its not just Conyers; its Obama and the DNC as a whole.

I expect a decade of show trials. They'll use the American courts when they can, and the ICC when they can, and congressional hearings for filler.

It is the beginning of the arrogant over-reaching as expected from idiots who think they are beyond ever losing the next election.

And they'll bring down our system of government in the process, which I believe is their objective.

Memo to Conyers:

If you want to talk about "politicization" of the Justice Dept., why not subpoena Janet Reno? Who do you think fired every holdover US Attorney in the country at the same time when the Clintonistas came to Washington in '93? (It wasn't Karl Rove.)

Conyers is not only a hard-core communist, he’s also a sniveling, ranting moonbat. Did I mention he’s also enormously stupid?

Please, let America see the doofus Conyers on national TV. Rove will will rip this moron to shreds, chew him up and spit back nails.
