Geithner vote of 60-34 (near strict party line), Gibbs' Press Beatings, Pelosi's $300M for abortion, Obama's "I won so shut up" -- The speed with which the Obama Administration is going down is breathtaking -- and wonderful!
Hear hear and well said. We have to STOP THE DOUBLE STANDARD. A Republican who does a bad thing is no worse than a Democrat doing the same thing.
Geitner would have been approved even if every Republican voted against him. Amazing, there are more than 50 Democrat senators who voted for a tax cheat to head our economic policy. That is shocking.
Democrats won because the DNC went after all Republicans, good and bad (see Sarah Palin as the most recent example). The only way we're gonna get them out of power is to stand against all Democrats. We have plenty to condemn them on, if only we care enough to.
Correct. IT IS PAST TIME TO STOP GIVING THE DEMOCRATS A PASS ON THINGS.
Will check Kyl out.
You have a dark and suspicious mind, dude. :)
If you wish to operate on some misguided notion that I approve of the Democrats, that’s okay by me.
My concern is OUR SIDE. We have the number of Republicans required to block cloture. That is our responsibility. That is our focus. That is our job one.
Ten Republican crossed over on this vote. That’s for all intents and purposes 25%. Six of the Democrats switched over, just a hair over 10%.
We now have 35 votes we can count on in the Senate, and John McCain is one of them. LMAO< that means that we actually have 34 votes we can count on.
And you think my focus should be the Democrats. This penchant some folks have for wanting to ignore what our side is doing to us is incredibly frustrating to the rest of us.
Please check out post 264.
It just dawned on me that that 35 number I was kicking around included six Democrats. No, we have 29 votes we can count on. And this includes ole Johnny Boy.
And you think my focus should be the Democrats? Good grief!
We have 41 Republicans in the Senate. Now, please, don’t criticize them. That would be unfortunate. Geez...
Please see 266. I mean to address it to you also.
“And you think my focus should be the Democrats?”
No. My point: Criticize equally the Democrats and Republicans who voted for Geitner. Dont let those 50+ pro-Geitner Democrats off the hook. They also voted for a tax cheat to run the IRS.
“My concern is OUR SIDE. We have the number of Republicans required to block cloture. That is our responsibility. That is our focus. That is our job one.”
On this I agree. I have sent a message and spoken with a number of Senate offices to call on them to FILIBUSTER THE STIMULUS BILL.
I urge everyone to call and email and fax to do the same.
202-224-3121.
However, when the vote comes down, dont let Democrats off the hook. They are running washington and must be held accountable for the bad bills they pass.
It is important to phone and email. Even with odds against us, we must never just give up.
The Democrats were voted in to do what they are doing. I disagree with them, but they are doing what they said they would do.
We have 12 people on our side, out of 41, that we can’t count on. One of the 29 left can’t be counted on either. That is going to continue to be my focus.
Is what the Democrats did a problem? Are they miscreants for having done it? Hell yes. Well, that’s what Democrats do. Who doesn’t know this?
Once again, if the both of you wish to operate on the idea that I support the Democrats, go right ahead. If my time here hasn’t influenced you to think otherwise, then go for it.
You’re really missing the point here WOSG. They can’t pass these bills without our votes. We can’t blame the Democrats for a single on of these bills. Our side is making the bills passable.
The Democrats could try as hard as they might to pass these bills, but without Republicans, they couldn’t pass a one of them.
Voinufabitch doesn’t surprise me.
I don’t call 25% of Republicans to be just “some” Republican support. It’s “significant” Republican report. And quite frankly, I’m angry about it. We now have 29 Republicans we can count on, and McCain is one of them. That means we really have 28 we can count on. Good grief!
The Democrats will now have 72 votes for some things. Heaven help us.
With only 41 votes, our ONLY weapon to stop anything is a 100% unanimous filibuster. Okay, I’m game, let’s give it a try. .. on the stimulus.
“The Democrats could try as hard as they might to pass these bills, but without Republicans, they couldnt pass a one of them.”
Alas, they only need 1 or 2 jellyfish votes.
Actually, right now we only have to announce that we are trying a filibuster. The Dems can’t get a vote of 60 right now. One of ours could cross over, and they still couldn’t get a vote of 60. The Dems only have 58 seated Senators right now.
I’m not sure if the Vice-President could make that 60% number. Does he count in cloture votes? He may, I just don’t know.
“Actually, right now we only have to announce that we are trying a filibuster.”
Yes, and I think our #1 PRIORITY is to get the GOP Senators to put a filibuster on the stimulus bill and make a number of demands to change it. My communication to GOP Senators is below. Please send a message to them. They need to feel the heat to see the light.
On the nomination, don’t hope for filibusters though. The President deserves up or down votes on these folks, although I am all for slow-walking nominees like Solis and Holder who dont give straight answers.
Republicans need to FILIBUSTER the big-Government boondoggle monstrosity the Democrats and Obama are planning. Any Republican who looks at this is appalled: - billions in wasteful Government spending that has nothing to do with growing the economy but is 100% about growing the Government at the expense of our fiscal security and private economy.
Without a principled conservative opposition to the already excessive liberalism of Obama and the Democrats, the Republicans will have no credibility in 2010. Now is the time to take a stand and filibuster this bad bill.
There are specific demands that must be made:
#1 - filibuster against any spending that occurs after this fiscal year, and insist spending be done later in appropriations for next year; 100% of spending should be focussed SOLELY on this year and out-year spending should be in followup appropriations as conditions warrant. Why tie the USA to trillion dollar debt now for spending that will occur well after the recession is over?
#2 - no spending unless all tax laws are extended until 2013; in short, by raising taxes in 2010, the Democrats are cutting the economy off at the knees; they are killing, not stimulating, the economy; filibuster any bill that does not include delaying the increase in taxes.
#3 - No money for ACORN, for Planned Parenthood, for general pet projects that simply add to Government spending; filibuster any bill that has offensive, wasteful, non-stimulus spending; filibuster any bill that has pork and earmarks.
#4 - Filibuster any bill that is not at least 50% tax rate reductions, ie, real tax cuts; only tax rate reductions and/or direct tax cuts, such as allowing 100% expensing in 2009 of depreciable expenses, would incentivize the private sector.
Obama and the Democrats are perpetrating a hoax on the American people with their bad bill, and I am counting on Senator Cornyn to lead the fight to expose it.
Anyone have sources on the “I won” comment and Obama blasting Rush? Tried searching ... no luck.
“On the nomination, dont hope for filibusters though. The President deserves up or down votes on these folks, although I am all for slow-walking nominees like Solis and Holder who dont give straight answers.”
The president deserves an up and down vote on a tax cheat to be head of the U.S. Treasury? Oh really? No. He deserves an up and down vote on a decent nominee. He does not deserve and up and down vote on a crook.
BTW, I agree with your efforts to contact our Senators with your message. I think it’s important that we do.
“The president deserves an up and down vote on a tax cheat to be head of the U.S. Treasury? Oh really? No”
Yes, Geitner deserved a vote, even if it should have been 0-99 against and utter humiliation for Obama for daing to put him forward. ;-)
