"I hope he fails" -- Limbaugh
It is, of course, a calculated outrage.
Meaning, it was spewed by a clown in the media circus to kick a familiar sequence into motion: angry denunciation by bloggers, pundits and supporters of President Barack Obama (the ''he'' whose failure is hoped), followed by Rush Limbaugh refusing to retract a word, a courageous truth teller who will not be moved. And, trailing behind, like the folks with brooms trail the elephants in the circus parade, Limbaugh's devotees, complaining that their hero has been misquoted, misunderstood or otherwise mistreated. ``What Rush meant was . . . yadda yadda yadda.''
A calculated outrage.

``I hope he fails.''
Do you ever say that about your president if you are an American who loves your country? Would you say it about George W. Bush, who was disastrous; about Bill Clinton, who was slimy; about Jimmy Carter, who was inept; about Richard Nixon, who was crooked? You may think he's going to fail, yes. You may warn he's going to fail, yes.
But do you ever hope he fails? Knowing his failure is the country's failure? Isn't that, well . . . disloyal?
(snip)
Yes, an observer might point out that it's counterproductive to give them attention while decrying their love of attention. But, as already noted, occasionally the clowns spew something that cannot, and ought not, be ignored.

That is a quote directly from his column. What a Commie this guy Pitts is.
Of course I took his comment completely out of context, but two can play that "I don't want to hear 'what he meant was yadda yadda yadda' " game.

Hey Leonard, sell many papers recently? I wouldn’t buy this paper to line a bird cage. As is so very true of most liberal “true believers”, dissent is a one way street.
not only did the left “hope” George Bush failed, they worked actively to make sure he did in everything, without rationality or logic, were willing to see our country go down the toilet and gloat about it
LLS
The fascinating thing about Limbaugh, for me, is that his take on any subject isn’t the same as some of the cookie cutter conservative commentators...
...except on Inauguration day el rushbo was chortling over the fact that the stock market was tanking big time...hate to break up this lovefest, but anybody (especially while reveling in his own wealth) who wishes us to take it on the chin financially, simply to spin a political viewpoint, is hardly heroic in his outlook...
No, it isn't.
Do you ever say that about your president if you are an American who loves your country?
In this case? Absolutely. Obama's failure can only mean the continued survival and dominance of our republic.
And, trailing behind, like the folks with brooms trail the elephants in the circus parade, Limbaugh's devotees, complaining that their hero has been misquoted, misunderstood or otherwise mistreated.
He wasn't misquoted or misunderstood. He wants Obama to fail and I agree with him 100%.

Interesting choice of words there. Veeeery interesting...
Isn't that, well . . . disloyal?
When it comes to political structures of any kind, my first and only loyalty is to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, against ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC. Anything beyond that is gravy, in my opinion.
He wants to wake up in a world without white people. Screw him.
He'd have to stand on tiptoes to really bite Limbaugh on the ankle.
Exactly. Bears-repeating bump.
Leonard Pitts is a hypocrite to the fourth power.
On Friday, Rush was adament that he hoped that 0bama’s POLICIES fail.
Pitts was always trashing Bush, so this is expected. He is one of the main reasons I stopped my subscription to the Austin - ultra liberal - Longhorn - non statesman.
The whole thing is surreal, watching these good little nazis goosestepping their way behind their fuhrer, demanding blind obedience under the “patriotism to the fatherland” banner. Yep, Joeseph Goebbels would jealous of this modern day version of the Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. “Heil Obama!”. “Sieg Heil!Sieg Heil!” ...
I didn’t care for that reaction about the stock market from Rush, either.
I agree with your point.
By Pitts own logic, all Germans who hoped Hitler would fail were unpatriotic as well.
I'm sure Pitts also believes that "The enemy of my enemy is my friend", because it doesn't take more than a seconds thought to come down on that side.
Oh, put on your big girl panties and stop your whining!
The losses on Inaugeration Day did not break anybody who has not already been broken. The market will make it up in the next week (or won't... whatever).
If the market rallied 300 points, you know the Obamites would be over the moon with glee. The fact that it dropped 300 points just means they will not have the opportunity to point and the market and lie about how Obama is making things better on his very first day.
Frankly, I'm with Limbaugh. If a one-day drop prevents the Obamites from telling this lie, it is money well spent.
It only seems that way to someone waaaay up in the left field cheapseats...I always though Rush was, well, sorta centrist.
If the market rallied on Inaugeration Day, and the Obamites were able to point to this rally as an indicator that Wall Street backed The One, this would grease the skids and make it easier for the Democrats to pass their anti-business, anti-wealth agenda. Such a rally would have been paid for, in spades, down the road.
If the markets are going to react negatively to Obamanomics, it is best to know this early and as clearly as possible. That way, the worst excesses might be avoided.
Can we say "third" like Jean Chretien used to? I think it expresses it better.
