"I hope he fails" -- Limbaugh
It is, of course, a calculated outrage.
Meaning, it was spewed by a clown in the media circus to kick a familiar sequence into motion: angry denunciation by bloggers, pundits and supporters of President Barack Obama (the ''he'' whose failure is hoped), followed by Rush Limbaugh refusing to retract a word, a courageous truth teller who will not be moved. And, trailing behind, like the folks with brooms trail the elephants in the circus parade, Limbaugh's devotees, complaining that their hero has been misquoted, misunderstood or otherwise mistreated. ``What Rush meant was . . . yadda yadda yadda.''
A calculated outrage.

Do you ever say that about your president if you are an American who loves your country? Would you say it about George W. Bush, who was disastrous; about Bill Clinton, who was slimy; about Jimmy Carter, who was inept; about Richard Nixon, who was crooked? You may think he's going to fail, yes. You may warn he's going to fail, yes.
But do you ever hope he fails? Knowing his failure is the country's failure? Isn't that, well . . . disloyal?

Yes, an observer might point out that it's counterproductive to give them attention while decrying their love of attention. But, as already noted, occasionally the clowns spew something that cannot, and ought not, be ignored.

Indeed! Why I clearly recall the tsunami of outrage on the left when Ellen Ratner said she hoped that President Bush screws up the Iraq war. My oh my, the livid response to her by the left was simply breathtaking!
What a tool. I can’t wait for Rushs’ show on Monday morning. This is going to be great fun.
Of course, this writer is doing precisely what he accuses Rush's fans of doing.
What is he doing in this article if not saying "What Rush meant was...yadda yadda yadda"?
The fascinating thing about Limbaugh, for me, is that his take on any subject isn't the same as some of the cookie cutter conservative commentators. There are conserrvative voices I agree with but don't necessarily respect intellectually because they are so damned predictable--I don't listen to them because I know exactly what they're going to say.
Limbaugh has gotten zero respect for his most valuable position, namely, he was the most prominent commentator on the right to regularly attack the Republicans for bailing on conservative positions. He was doing this from the first I heard him (20 years ago).
He often has to explain his positions because people like this writer (?) take the lazy punk's position of twisting his meaning.
Limbaugh hopes Obama fails to implement his (to Limbaugh's point of view...and mine) quasi-socialist agenda. I agree. This writer refuses to see that, is too dumb to listen to Limbaugh's original expansion on the comment, or knows how easy it is to spin what Limbaugh said in a way that delights the left--a way that says the opponents of Obama are Un-American.
The left LOVES that they can get to say that to their opponents now, and it doesn't matter to them that they've been hoping Bush would fail for eight years--they'll unload these silly "pro-America" positions as long as they think they can discredit the opposition.
Obama's failure is not MY country's failure! I hope he fails, because want he wants to do is what the loony leftists want, not what the most sane people in this country want! So fail, Obama, and fail mightily at the bad things you want to accomplish that would rip our nation asunder.

Ofcourse they just list those 4 words, instead of everything that was included after. I listened to the WHOLE interview with Rush. He said that, and right after that, made it clear that he was hoping he fails if he tries to install socialism.

Exactly. What hypocrisy on the left. Where was the outrage over the call for a million Mogadishus, or for soldiers to turn their guns on their officers, or for Saddam’s army to defeat the US?

Rush meant what he said and said what he meant. If Pitts is a little short on comprehension, that’s his problem.

Indeed - Obama's success is our country's failure.
He and the democrats have a defense for calling their policies socialism. Thei8r policies are more of “third way”, a way that is not quite socialist in that the government does not directly own American businesses, but a way that is not nearly capitalistic. This is a fascistic policy, complete control of industry by holding the carrot and promises of punitive taxes for any dissent. All in the name of the common good!
