Thanks for the BUMP. The Chinese are using our gross trade imbalance and our fixation with their cheaply priced gadgetry to fund an arms race where they are making great strides in catching up to us.

One day, it will cost us much, much more in treasure and blood to overcome what they are doing.

From their new HUMMVEE type vehicles, to their new Amphibious ships, to their VLS systems and their radars and guidance system, to this new defensive missile, they are gleaning our own ideas and technology, re-engineering them for their own purposes, and then building them with a will.

This is what comes of giving them free access to our schooling, technology, and even to visiting and participating in exercises aboard our own most sophistiaced vessels...a lot during the Clinton years (particularly in shady dual-use technology deals), but also continuing to a lesser extent to today.

The Chinese one looks like a non-functional mock-up, the US system looks like a photo of a deployed system, note the dirt & grunge on it.

That’s exactly what both pics are...but they are developing it now from a less impressive existing system and are expected to field it in the next couple of years.

OPINION: There's a reason the USA is not mentioned in the Bible.

OPINION #2: Considering the amount of willfully ignorant voters in the USA; I believe that China's military could advance quickly (technology wise) and encounter relatively few obstacles.

Then of course there's the global jihad, but that's another story.

I believe we may well be mentioned...but that is a matter of interpretation.

I personally think we are going to be so involved with our own internal upheavel...that we will not play a major part in the end-scene...but we will also have those nukes and may well be left alone to our own devices as the end scene develops in the Mid-East with the other world powers.

As to the Chinese. They are definitely rising both economically and militarily. Read that 2009 update if you haven't and look at some of the other pages on that site. They are building a fighting navy, and they are doing so with a will.
