WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama's pledge to seek a worldwide ban on weapons in space marks a dramatic shift in U.S. policy while posing the tricky issue of defining whether a satellite can be a weapon.

Moments after Obama's inauguration last week, the White House website was updated to include policy statements on a range of issues, including a pledge to restore U.S. leadership on space issues and seek a worldwide ban on weapons that interfere with military and commercial satellites.

"He told us what his agenda ws going to be and most of our fellow citizens just didn’t hear him or believe him."

Oh, they believed him. They just have no clue about unintended circumstances. He promised them free stuff - they couldn't see the ramifications.

Other than emotions. Why would we ever oppose a weapon in space? Especially a defensive one?

But on the other hand, when in New Mexico, it’s stupifying to see all the Obama stickers on cars headed in and out of the National labs in Albuquerque and Los Alamos. I hope this also means their jobs lose all funding too. They all dream of working on new green stuff instead of evil war.

"I don’t think he’s dumb (don’t think he’s a genius, either, btw). He told us what his agenda ws going to be and most of our fellow citizens just didn’t hear him or believe him.

OH, GMAB. The liar campaigned to the right of GWB for the last six weeks of the race when the sheeple were finally paying attention. FGS, he had Christians who thought he was pro-life and gun owners who thought he was pro-gun drooling over him. He's a liar, and no one knows what he's really going to do, but I suspect it won't be conservative, ya think?

I believe sincerely that, when it comes to space based weapons, the horse is out of the barn.

Well, he said the coal industry was going to founder and prices would increase, he promised to shut down Gitmo and end the war ASAP, he had an extremely liberal track record in the Senate and in his home state, and he promised to initiate a civilian security force. His call for “volunteers” was plainly stated on his web site and he spoke openly of his desire to share the wealth. In terms of transparency, he provided none before the campaign and now it’s the same. I think he gave us plenty of opportunities to understand what he intended to do and plenty of opportunities to see that he was withholding almost everything about his identity.

I agree that he campaigned as a conservative toward the end, but he could have said anything to his fans and it wouldn’t have made a bit of difference. It was definitely a cult of personality that was going on.

Interesting, since there seems to be no real definition of “weapons”.

Does a surveillance satellite count?

Does a satellite that targets ground based interceptors count?

Does a ground-based laser that “blinds” satellites count?

You could argue that none of the above are actual weapons in space.

It would rule out such proposed weapons as “Brilliant Pebbles” though...

Perhaps this is more window dressing to placate the looney left?

He lacks the ability to discern right from wrong. His values are twisted, but he’s smart enough to go about implementing them. This makes him a dangerous person.

I agree that some believed him and supported his agenda. Some of my friends, though, refused to believe that what obama said was what he meant. They just thought he sounded good and seemed nice. I think it was a matter of “anybody but Bush.” But, yes, I think you’re right, that they didn’t understand the consequences. That seems to be a hard concept for liberals to grasp - there are consequences for actions.

Does he not understand that anything moving at orbital speeds has so much kinetic energy as to be a weapon by any meaningful definition of the word?

He’s not even in office a week and he’s dismantling our defenses. Turning us into sitting ducks. The American people should be up in arms about this ....and Gitmo. I hope the stupid voters are happy with their change.

Funny, I thought there was already a ban on weapons in space. If satellites get classified as weapons and the US is no longer allowed military satellites, 50+ years worth of strategic advantage is gone. That would be spectacularly dumb, but wouldn’t put it past Obama. The Peace crowd on the Left would lap it up too.

If Obama pushes this, Gates and the Joint Chiefs should resign in protest.

I keeping on saying it, and it still bears repeating. His man will destroy this nation. He takes over the top job, puts the murder of innocents into law, and now will drop our defenses so our enemies can destroy us. Perfectly played by the coward called “O.”

Our enemies will never attack the WH or any other place that he is because he is one of them and they don’t dare risk loosing him.

Its amazing how much damage this puppet has done and he hasn’t even been in office a week yet.

He needs the money for the inner cities.

Does no one remember this:
OBAMA: I WILL CUT INVESTMENTS IN UNPROVEN WEAPONS SYSTEMS. I WILL NOT WEAPONIZE SPACE...
The O-man's moving fast...almost like he thinks he doesn't have much time to implement this lunacy. I didn't think he would overreach this soon, but maybe his arrogance has caught up with him. We'll see.

When a foreign leader seeks to weaken our defenses, they are called an "ENEMY".

When a US leader seeks to weaken our defenses, they are called a "TRAITOR" "DEMOCRAT".

thats nice, those companies are some of the few left that are still hiring. NG needs up to 500 more engineers. I think the master plan is to reduce the workforce even more and then replace the skilled workforce with unskilled non-white construction workers. With all that infra-structure money from the stimilus package there’s a good chance we will end up with Malt Liquor Musuems in every major city and town.
