A deeply flawed new report will be cited ad nauseam by everyone from the BBC to Al Gore, says Christopher Booker.
The measures being proposed to meet what President Obama last week called the need to "roll back the spectre of a warming planet" threaten to land us with the most colossal bill mankind has ever faced. It might therefore seem peculiarly important that we can trust the science on which all the alarm over global warming is based, But nothing has been more disconcerting in this respect than the methods used by promoters of the warming cause over the years to plug some of the glaring holes in their scientific argument.
Another example last week was the much-publicised claim, contradicting all previous evidence, that Antarctica, the world's coldest continent, is in fact warming up, Antarctica has long been a major embarrassment to the warmists. Al Gore and co may have wanted to scare us that the continent which contains 90 per cent of all the ice on the planet is heating up, because that would be the source of all the meltwater which they claim will raise sea levels by 20 feet.

Ping me if you find one I've missed.
While most environmentalists, at large, oppose traditional traits of Western civilization like Capitalism, engagement in economic development and devotion to logic thought, they really seem to have embraced at least one single aspect of modern society: the “Wall Street-like” belief in the importance of
From a true scientific point of view, hundred tropical Icelandic nights in row means literally nothing to the study of so called “global heating”.
Traditional journalism is one of the worst enemies of science, simply because sensationalism and the true spirit of science aim at two completely different goals.
My impression is the less a given person knows about the actual complexity of science, the more prone he or she is to claim definitive facts about things like the depletion of the ozone layer and global heating.
Speaking of an issue closely related to global heating like the depletion of the ozone layer, I recall two conversations I've had concerning this area of scientific research with two experts in the field. Both admitted the so called “evidence” for CFC depletion of the ozone layer actually boils down to little less than junk science. The attitude they nurtured was one of “we ought to be careful because we don't know” sooner than one of “CFC’s are presently destroying the ozone layer”.
I believe most people in the possession of true insight into natural science envy the likes of Al Gore who don't have to bother about silly things like the scientific method.
Correction:
“Wall Street-like belief in the importance of AN ACCESS TO A RAPID FLOW OF FIGURES AND STATISTICS ENABLING IMMIDIATE CONCLUSIONS REGARDING ALL FIELDS OF REALITY.”
Sorry..
