Vatican accuses Obama of 'arrogance'
Times Of India ^ | January 24, 2009

ROME: A senior Vatican official on Saturday attacked US President Barack Obama for "arrogance" for overturning a ban on state funding for family-planning groups that carry out or facilitate abortions overseas.

It is "the arrogance of someone who believes they are right, in signing a decree which will open the door to abortion and thus to the destruction of human life," Archbishop Rino Fisichella was quoted as saying by the Corriere della Sera daily.

Fisichella is president of the Pontifical Academy for Life, one of a number of so-called pontifical academies which are formed by or under the direction of the Holy See.

"What is important is to know how to listen... without locking oneself into ideological visions with the arrogance of a person who, having the power, thinks they can decide on life and death," he added.

Obama signed the executive order cancelling the eight-year-old restrictions on Friday, the third full day of his presidency.

The so-called "global gag rule" cut off US funding to overseas family planning clinics which provide any abortion services whatsoever, from the operation itself to counselling, referrals or post-abortion services.

"If this is one of the first acts of President Obama, with all due respect, it seems to me that the path towards disappointment will have been very short," Fisichella said.

"I do not believe that those who voted for him took into consideration ethical themes, which were astutely left aside during the election debate. The majority of the American population does not take the same position as the president and his team," he added.

The order won Obama praise from Democratic lawmakers, family planning and women's rights groups but drew angry condemnation from pro-life organisations and Republicans.

More than 250 health and human rights organisations from around the world sent Obama a letter, thanking him for ending a policy "which has contributed to the deaths and injuries of countless women and girls."

Let him have it, Abp. Fisichella.

This sort of subversive, illogical reasoning drives me crazy. Does nobody in liberal land understand how ridiculous this sounds when we are talking about the deaths of millions upon millions upons millions of pre-born babies??

Not all of them are lost causes by any stretch...and you put the others on notice. Very few of them are true ideologs...they are politicians and will respond if enough pressure is brought to bear to the point that they think they may lose their political life.

On top of that...and maybe most importantly, we might just see the Hand of Providence assist us (or at the very least spare us for a season) if we stand up and show Him we are trying. II Chron 7:14.

The true definition of a real “Catholic” is shaping up to be those who make the right choice between God’s will and a $500 stimulus check.

Anyone, Catholic or not, can donate $500 to a good prolife group.

Good points.

I don’t think these things are lost causes at all. The idiot Biden was picked because he was a Catholic (technically speaking) and he and Pelosi were then dumb enough to think they were theologians and go out and challenge the bishops. The good thing about this is that it upset so many previously dormant bishops that they actually woke up and started making statements and actually doing their job.

The only thing that remains is that some of these politicians have to be publicly excommunicated. I don’t know what bishop will have the cojones to begin, but once somebody starts, the others will follow.

And maybe God will then spare us. I certainly hope so, because I love this country and people all over the world love us and look to us. We can’t let it die now.

Amen and spot on to every last bit of that.

Freedom and liberty, whether physical or spiritual, has never been free...and in deed, cannot be had trivially at no cost.

God grant that we be willing to recognize and pay the price.

FREEDOM IS NOT FREE

Has the messiah offered any backtalk? He might want to grab the bishop and get in his face like the altercation with the journalist. There is a control freak on a power trip in the Oval Office.

Excellent completion of that sentence. Not to mention the deaths of countless women who will die from complications, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, as well as suffer depression, addictions, sterility, etc. due to these “safe, legal” abortions we will be forced to pay for.

Since the Vatican has lifted the excommunications of the four Lefebvrian bishops, now may be the chance to impose excommunication on a few people who truly are apostates from the faith.

Namely the CATHOLICS for OBAMA:

Try not to laugh (or vomit) when reading some of the names!

Our Board

Victoria Reggie Kennedy

Kathleen Kennedy Townsend

Thomas P. O’Neill III

James Roosevelt, Jr.

William D’Antonio, PhD

Lisa Schare

Patrick Whelan, MD, PhD

Our Officers

Patrick Whelan, MD, PhD

Suzanne Morse, Secretary

Steve Krueger, National Director

Their website is a cesspool of duplicity and deceit, with headlines like this (I am NOT making this up):

Magic moment as Obama takes office and a new era of moral government dawns

'Mexico City' policy reversed, in move that could lead to fewer abortions

President Obama changes the tone of the debate on anniversary of Supreme Court abortion decisions

What Kool-Aid drinking nonsense!

BISHOPS OF THE UNITED STATES . . . or better still, HOLY FATHER: do something about these liars! Please!

Obama has a message for the Pope: “I won.”

And the church has a message for the usurper: We've read the book and we know how it ends. Good triumphs. "We win."

This is very good to hear from a senior Vatican official.

You sound surprised, which seems weird to me, as if it's news to you that the Catholic Church opposes abortion. Am I misreading you?

Knowing who has life is above his pay grade.
Deciding who dies is not.
Presidents have a lot of power.

Maybe Obambi doesn't only want mothers not to be punished for their “mistakes”, but is even magnanimous enough not to want to punish the would-be next generation with the trillions upon trillions of dollars of national debt that they would otherwise be obligated to pay. His logic could be that being born owing hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Chinese would be worse than death. /sarc

You are correct, sir!

Along with several other Obama beliefs and agendas, The American people are in for a rude awakening.

We tried to warn’em, elections have consequences.

So in the Kingdom of Obama:

Waterboarding Islamo-fascist killers is a "crime,"

but killing unborn babies is a "right"?

OK . . .
