Vatican accuses Obama of 'arrogance'
Times Of India ^ | January 24, 2009

ROME: A senior Vatican official on Saturday attacked US President Barack Obama for "arrogance" for overturning a ban on state funding for family-planning groups that carry out or facilitate abortions overseas.

It is "the arrogance of someone who believes they are right, in signing a decree which will open the door to abortion and thus to the destruction of human life," Archbishop Rino Fisichella was quoted as saying by the Corriere della Sera daily.

Fisichella is president of the Pontifical Academy for Life, one of a number of so-called pontifical academies which are formed by or under the direction of the Holy See.

"What is important is to know how to listen... without locking oneself into ideological visions with the arrogance of a person who, having the power, thinks they can decide on life and death," he added.

Obama signed the executive order cancelling the eight-year-old restrictions on Friday, the third full day of his presidency.

The so-called "global gag rule" cut off US funding to overseas family planning clinics which provide any abortion services whatsoever, from the operation itself to counselling, referrals or post-abortion services.

"If this is one of the first acts of President Obama, with all due respect, it seems to me that the path towards disappointment will have been very short," Fisichella said.

"I do not believe that those who voted for him took into consideration ethical themes, which were astutely left aside during the election debate. The majority of the American population does not take the same position as the president and his team," he added.

The order won Obama praise from Democratic lawmakers, family planning and women's rights groups but drew angry condemnation from pro-life organisations and Republicans.

More than 250 health and human rights organisations from around the world sent Obama a letter, thanking him for ending a policy "which has contributed to the deaths and injuries of countless women and girls."

Remember the majority “Catholics” voted for Obama and were very vocal about it. The American Catholics are only pseudo religious and have left the church. The church should realize this and excommunicate all of those that are unable to abide by it’s doctrine.

The true definition of a real “Catholic” is shaping up to be those who make the right choice between God’s will and a $500 stimulus check.

If the govt is using your tax money to slaughter human beings, the right thing to do is to refuse to give them tax money, even if it means reducing yourself to poverty so as to be relieved of tax burden; or, going to jail.

Now who's going to do either one of those things?

That headline is slightly wrong. It should read "Vatican points out obama's arrogance."

We have been working on the first of those for a long time and reduced the outlay personally...but we also feel we must use what resource we can to raise our voices and fight what is happening. Very difficult decisions for all of us. Stop altogether and render ourselves much less able and effective in the fight...or fight it as best we can and use our resource to educate others and toll the bell.

We are walkking that mine field as best we can...I pray we all do and do whatever our conscience and the good Lord inspire us to do to resist and fight these dreadful circumstances.

A lot of people who claim to be Catholic say they voted for the immoral, evil, democratic candidate for president. Faithful Catholics did not, norb. Implant that fact in your grape.

Closing Gitmo...funding the killing of babies overseas..

In the words of King Theoden in Lord of the Rings before the horrific battle: “How did it come to this???”

Even in Chicago, they are telling Catholics that voted for Obama they shouldn’t take communion. Happy to see the Vatican take this stance.

What are we doing sending any tax dollars overseas to fund abortions or pay to fund them here? No tax dollars should ever be used to fund the killing of babies. We may be stuck with Roe v Wade but it doesn’t say American taxpayers have to fund abortion.

Didn’t take long for the bloom to go off ZERO!

A few years ago I alienated some good friends with this issue. Roman Catholics, fiercely activist pro-life Catholics with five children. They said they couldn’t make any sort of financial protest because they had to provide for their five children. I’m afraid I was rather blunt in my arguments.
Won’t soon do that again.

Arrogance and evil are two different things.

Forcibly extorting money from citizens by threat of arms under the blanket of “taxes” and then using that money to finance the murder of unborn innocents against the will of those citizens is EVIL.

But that is not saying arrogance isn’t also a major character flaw of zer0.

What good would writing GOP senators do. I live in PA and we have Spector. He would let Obama do abortions in the oval office and might even help with sucking the brains out of the “ Mistakes”
The Boys in the beltway are about out of touch as they have ever been. The GOP has turned from the party of Reagan to the party of McCain{UGH}.

That was a great program, wasn’t it? Raymond Arroyo really asked some hard questions and his guests really pulled out all the stops with their answers. I was cheering their courage in telling the TRUTH!

It looks like the Roman Catholic Church will be carrying the charge for the Life Brigade. Thank God they are speaking out as forcefully as they have been the past few years.

I DO wish the comments had included Biden/Pelosi/Kennedy/Kerry/Durbin and the other purportedly Catholic elected officials who advance the abortion agenda. But we’ll take it one step at a time ... till the RCC threatens to close its hospitals in the USA if BHO eliminates the freedom of choice NOT to perform abortions and/or euthenasia.
