She lost him at "hello."
Gov. Paterson was completely underwhelmed with Caroline Kennedy from their first conversation about Hillary Clinton's Senate seat, a source close to the governor said.
Paterson's thinking has become clearer in the two days since Kennedy withdrew her name for the Senate seat that Friday went to upstate Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-Hudson).
Friends said Paterson was adamant that she was never going to be appointed, even though she was considered the front-runner.
Paterson was turned off when Kennedy first called him and asked if she "could" be considered for the seat.
By asking if she could, rather than saying she wanted to be considered, Paterson immediately felt she wasn't really interested, the source said.
In meetings, the governor and his aides decided she had no political depth, the source said.
She had no firmly held views and little idea about why she wanted the job, the source said.
Her abysmal public rollout cemented the governor's fears that she had no political instincts.
The governor felt the sheltered Kennedy had no communication skills and absolutely no empathy with the voters, the source said.
He was amazed that she went upstate for a day to meet with political leaders but didn't walk around to chat up regular people.
"She just lived in a bubble," the source said.

“Admiral Oldsmobile”
LOL! That’s a new moniker for the most worthless of all the many Kennedys, though it’s still hard to beat “The Swimmer”.
(Pray for Mary Jo Kopechne. It will soon be forty years since the Chappaquiddick atrocity.)
...Admiral Oldsmobile
LOL. Who the hell is Admiral Oldsmobile?
That photo is startlingly unflattering. Is she storing a wintertime supply of nuts in her jowls, chewing tobacco, or what?
Regards,
I hadn’t yaknow heard much yaknow from yaknow Caroline yaknow Kennedy until yaknow she wanted yaknow this yaknow Senate seat yaknow.
Once yaknow she yaknow opened her mouth yaknow, she revealed yaknow a significant yaknow inability yaknow to communicate yaknow via yaknow the media yaknow.
[I continue to be surprised at how inarticulate many of these people are — many from ivy league and expensive private schools. Caroline Kennedy, Barry Obama (without a teleprompter), Hillary Clinton, etc. They should ask for refunds.]
Yeah, walked like a man and talked like an idiot. And the liberal media made fun of Sarah Palin’s public school education. So much for the superiority of Ivy League schooling - puke! The most revolting part the Caroline Kennedy fiasco is the “the sense of entitlement” that she exhibited. I am glad she got stuffed and humiliated. A good dose of humiliation is what a bunch of those folks need.
What do you expect from a woman whose mother spent her last years shacking up with another woman’s husband? Class?
The Clintons are already much richer than Teddy, probably about as rich as Schlossberg, and are going to be billionaires by 2012. This would adequately explain the trashing of Caroline.
Arnold is a big nothing, with no future in politics. Caroline has no future—not even in Massachusetts. I think we may be seeing the beginning of the end of the Kennedys as a “public” family. I hope this isn’t just wishful thinking.
The same day Clinton was confirmed, Caroline pulls out. Isn’t that suspicious? Clinton was free to go after her and wasted less than an hour.
Isn't that part of the liberal litmus test for liberals to be considered electable and one of “us” ??
how did she diss laura?
I enjoyed this from your quote from the WSJ.
No, we're not "selling a Senate seat" here now are we? No, not like that horrible Rod Blago in Illinois. Oh no.
These Rats are so predictable and consistent.
“...if he had not been killed he would have finished his presidency as the medocrity he was, and his memory would never have been so idolozed...”
For repeating a version of that sentiment heard at our family dinner table, I, at about 11 or so years old, was banned for life from my best friends house and property. Mrs. Kelly, who kept a shrine to St. John of Camelot in her kitchen, literally when berserk at such blasphemy.
Today, many people are not aware that, at the time of his assassination, his re-election chances were not looking so good. With Johnson and Daley’s help, he stole the first election from Nixon, and to Johnson he turned again to boost his chances for re-election. Hence, the fateful trip to Dallas.
Blagoshould that quote in his defense.. same ol same ol
If obamma lamma lasts one term in office I’ll be surprised.
If he lasts one whole term and the economy stays in the toilet he’ll be thought of as a total waste. If he gets taken out he will be forever a hero and icon.
Honestly, I think the Governor made the right call here. He seems to have picked a “real person” as opposed to a celebrity. Yeah, I know, she’s a Democrat, but at least she supports gun rights—and we know he would never pick a Republican (are there any left in NY?). As for having no class, not sure what you mean here. Apparently, he told CK in advance she wasn’t going to get the seat and let her “withdraw” on her own. What else could he have done?
The bonus is the inept way Paterson has handled the whole Senate thing-even before Horseface Kennedy came on board. Now all the libs are at each other’s throats. Beautiful.
Hopefully, some of the guilt-ridden PC wankers our country has become infested with will watch all this and wake up to the third world banana republic our country is becoming-in any sane society Paterson, Caroline, Hillary, and our new king, Liverlips the First, wouldn’t be considered for dogcatcher.
I don’t know, maybe we could all actually vote for someone worth a damn next time.
How did she diss Laura..
If I remember correctly, early on in the Bush first term, laura attended a showing of Jackies dresses in New York put on by Caroline. Laura arrived at this posh event, beautifully dressed and Caroline appeared to be barely civil to her. Laura did not stay long, and Hillary arrived after she left.
That's all well and good, but what about Caroline? Mrs. Kennedy was her mother.
