Europe lauds Obama shutdown of secret CIA prisons
By SHAWN POGATCHNIK and FRANK JORDANS, Associated Press Writers DUBLIN, Ireland
U.S. President Barack Obama's decision Thursday to shut secret CIA-run prisons abroad brought renewed calls for their locations to be disclosed as well a fresh denial from Poland, one of two eastern European countries most closely linked to the practice.
Across Europe, governments uneasy that CIA flights had been carrying terrorism suspects through their airports and air space for years said they were relieved to be heading into a new rendition-free era.
Dick Marty, the Swiss lawmaker who spearheaded the Council of Europe investigations that sought to expose the existence of clandestine interrogation centers in Eastern Europe and Africa, said he expected the truth would come trickling out once the centers were closed. "For some countries, things are going to become very embarrassing.
I think European countries would do well now to tell the truth," Marty said in an interview with The Associated Press. Marty said he "would be very surprised" if any CIA-run facilities were still operating in Europe, but added "in East Africa, or Morocco, I might assume there is something."
He said Obama's order granting Red Cross officials access to all secret facilities might prove critical in revealing their locations, both past and present.

Doncha know-—he’s president of the world!!!

Heard Brownback on the local radio today. Evidently one of the reasons he argues that Fort Leavenworth won’t work is because they are training the muslem officers of the future up there and they say that they would leave if the gitmo people showed up. Scary.
It sounds as though the Eurotrash are looking forward to us releasing these murders so they can go blow up more Europeeing cities.
Will they take these terrorists?
It truly amazes me how many people are so worried about frigging terrorists and their “rights”.
The executive order relates to all “permanent” facilities. It doesn’t say anything about temporary ones. Until I see different, I say this is window dressing that allows O to play both sides and look good to his leftist pals.
Obama is like a small child suddenly given supreme power. He will pass decrees, edicts and executive orders without thinking about the consequences. Only problem, we will be the ones to pay.
Good, let’s put them on a plane to Paris.
What kind of a Swiss name is "Dick Marty?"
I'm guessing he's been getting funny money from the Lugano cell's Ahmed Huber.
Well, goodie! When we are attacked again I hope the EU is pleased — oh, wait! They WILL be pleased since they are mostly Muslim anyway.
They should release the Gitmo guys IN the EU.
I don't see it mentioned yet, but I thought part of the reason for GITMO and the secret prisons was typical terrorist tactics. When they know who is imprisoned and where, it makes our soldiers and the prisons more of a target.
It happens in Israel all the time. Israel takes a prisoner, so the other side kidnaps an Israeli or two - or worse. Then they use them as hostages and bargaining chip, age-old tactic.
So with GITMO, it was more secure that way; of course it isn't going to completely stop retaliation, but I don't see what the big deal is. I've read verying accounts that some aren't really terrorists, just turned in for bounty and are innocent whereas others were caught on the battlefield. Some that have been released were supposedly caught on the battlefield.
Criminy, if this is the way we are going to fight wars from now on, forget it. We can't possibly win by playing nice. Europe when they were into wars and not such pansies (English excepted), they played dirtier than all get out, so they're a bunch of hypocrites. With the exception of Spain and England and possibly a few threats, Europe didn't get attacked. We did.
I agree the prisoners are a problem for a war that is prolonged indefinitely, but there must be more to it than that or there would have been more released.
If we had come to a conclusion of this WOT, closing the prisons would be another matter. Nobody seems to want them here or anywhere near them. Some suggested Texas. Yeah, right. NIMBY's and hypocrites.
Next time Europe gets in trouble, it’s on its own.
Who gives a damn what the Europeans think? They are finished, done, kaput, emasculated, castrated, and hogtied by the Moslems. Looks like Hitler’s buddies won the war, aided by the Communists and marxists.
Hey Eurotrash:
This time “The Yankees Aren’t Coming”.
Enjoy your death. We won’t mourn. Lost too much blood that last time. Never again.
The most eloquent thinf I can say is “Holy Crap!!!”
I just read this story and came to see if it posted over here yet. I had hoped the Hussein would somehow be brought to some sort of central point by the centrist Democrats, but he is absolutely hell bent on single-handedly dismantling the country in his first 100 days.
You can kiss you national security buns goodbye and say hello to terrorism on our shores if this keeps up. First Gitmo, now this.
I’m shaking my head, you just can’t see it...
With everything we know about him? Bulk up on your cynicism a little bit.
