I don't mind admitting that I was misty-eyed as I watched Obama make his entrance. Although I like to think I'm reasonably grown-up about these things, it was a spectacle I wasn't sure I'd see in my lifetime. The speech itself seemed disappointingly short of poetry. But then I remember being deeply impressed with the oratory of George W. Bush's second inaugural, and look what happened to all those fine words. In these bleak times, there's something to be said for being business-like; Obama can leave the symbolism to other people, perhaps. The one moment I did love was when he broke into a smile towards the end of Rev. Lowery's benediction:
We ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right.
The language was pure Jeremiah Wright, yet the wry humour drew the sting. Was this a glimpse of the post-racial America that we keep hearing about?
And where exactly does that leave barry hussein? He's half whitey. Does that leave him conflicted??
Maybe that was his request that “blacks” won’t pay taxes anymore. /1/2 sarcasm, 1/2 serious
as a self-imposed black-outer today, also, I figure i’ve got some time to read & re-read about all this.
Unfortunately, he has not released his birth certificate and therein remains a problem.
I am waiting to see what SCOTUS is going to do about this mess and that’s the news I”ll be FOLLOWING INTENTLY
Pure racist crap.
Four years of attacks on whites are coming until we run this punk and his thugs out of DC.
We ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back...
CHECK! Democrats have ensured this.
When brown can stick around...
CHECK! Democrats have ensured this.
When yellow will be mellow...
What the hell does that MEAN?
When the red man can get ahead...
CHECK! Democrats have ensured that he doesn’t.
And when white will embrace what is RIGHT.
Right? You mean right, as in breaking up black families? Ensuring that black men are insignificant? Promoting abortion as the ONLY alternative to young black women? Making welfare a ‘lifestyle choice?’
Right? As in open borders and free health care for illegals?
I’d continue, but you know what I mean...
oops, slow computer and itchy trigger finger
I didn’t get misty when I watched the few seconds of this thing that I watched. I didn’t feel happy for black America. What an awful choice for the first black president. He’s going to be a shining example of ‘See? Black presidents can ruin the country just as well as Jimmy Carter.’ Too bad.
The only ‘hope’ I feel is the hope that the USA can overcome this new president and his administration because of people like and including the ones here at FreeRepublic.
My most memorable moment of the entire speech was when Obama stopped talking. That was nice.
Wrt today, I spent it applying to jobs online so as to be employed in the forseeable future.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Yes, that was part of the benediction. I didn't think it was humorous at all; it was hateful, which is exactly what I expect from Mr. and Mrs. Obama. The writer got one word wrong, however:
We ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked togiveget back
I guess the "Reverend" was referring to black people having to sit in the back of the bus a couple generations ago.
I was misty-eyed before I was petrified
I hear ya. LOL
The Carter administration was almost intolerable for me. The Clinton years were even worse. And now this.
The Democrats sure have a way with showing love for our homeland.
OK, “get back” makes a lot more sense. Thanks for clarifying.
