As the 43rd president waves goodbye to Washington, relatively few Americans share his proud assessment of his own presidency.
George W. Bush leaves the White House with one of the lowest approval ratings in history. According to Gallup, only Richard Nixon and Harry Truman, who suffered the double whammy of a bad economy and the unpopular Korean War, had lower approval ratings when they left the White House.
Today, Bush’s legacy to his successor is two unresolved wars, a global image that is deeply tarnished, and the greatest economic crisis in modern times.
Conservatives who backed Bush in two successive elections have little to show for their efforts. Bush, in fact, has decimated the Republican brand.
Bush oversaw the greatest increase in discretionary social spending in history as the federal government usurped new powers in its war on terror. He placed the United States on a global interventionist path for the elusive goal of “democracy.” Ronald Reagan would not be able to recognize the party he knew, which espoused limited government, protection of personal liberty, and the idea that the U.S. should lead globally by example rather than by force.

i sure don’t but I supported the heck out of him in 2 runs and feel quite let down
I’m with you on the first part but on the subprime bust and bailout, Bush has been POTUS 8 years, he can’t skate that one scot free
maybe they should have beat up Frank-Dodd a bit more
Some folks here do, indeed, hate him, though. And those of us who don't have as much right to defend him as those who are so quick with the insults toward someone who's doing the toughest job in the world.
Plus, the things they hate Bush for are things they don't hate others for--that's my biggest issue with the haters.
But just because you criticize doesn't mean you hate. Heck, I criticize him plenty.

I have my own disagreements with Bush, but I certainly don’t hate him.
As a matter of fact, I admire his dedication to keep this country safe.
One downer is amnesty, though.
I admire many things about Bush, and think Zero’s supporters buyer’s remorse will kick in pretty soon.

That's not what happened in 2000 with the OBL issue.
Bush didn't raise the immigration issue at all until he issued his victory statement. That's when he informed his fellow Republicans that they'd just affirmatively voted to open the borders.
Bait and switch. Conservative going into the primary, then OBL party-line coming out.
Bears-repeating bump. BTTT.
Also worth bearing in mind: The snarks and snakes who bit Bush's ankles so perfervidly to get the White House back for the 'Rats, live on one of the largest bullseyes on the planet -- one that got nailed in the ten-ring on 9/11.
If the Iranians get The Bomb, guess where they're going to test it?
