With President-elect Barack Obama set to take the oath of office to begin his first term, one New York Congressman wants to make it possible for him to one day serve a third. Representative Jose Serrano (D) has introduced a bill in the House to abolish the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, which limits presidents to two consecutive terms or ten years in office.

This ammendment isn’t for Obama. It’s for Bill Clinton.
Not much chance that will pass.
Thank God we have a Second Amendment!
If Democrats think it will allow "the one" to stay in office, why not?
Two-thirds of the states must ratify.
Ain’t gonna happen.
‘zackly. The southern states won’t tolerate this.
Therefore, I surmise that the author has a somewhat different agenda in mind.
A lot of us up north don’t like it either.
Not to mention all the Democrats in the Senate and Governorships (as well as the next SOS) that want to be President themselves in 2016.
A bill to repeal the 22nd Amendment has been introduced in every Congress for the last 10 or 20 years. I doubt it will go anywhere this time either.
Article V
The Congress, whenever two thirds of both houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose amendments to this Constitution, or, on the application of the legislatures of two thirds of the several states, shall call a convention for proposing amendments, which, in either case, shall be valid to all intents and purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the legislatures of three fourths of the several states, or by conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other mode of ratification may be proposed by the Congress; provided that no amendment which may be made prior to the year one thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any manner affect the first and fourth clauses in the ninth section of the first article; and that no state, without its consent, shall be deprived of its equal suffrage in the Senate.
That's why not.
Great, a Liberal Democrat calling for a Hugo Chavez-like government.
I was reflecting on the 51 elected Bluedog Democrats that may be our best best for retaining sanity in the next two years.
My bet is that before 4 years are up you could pass an amendment allowing for the removal of the president by popular vote.
We shall see...
Two-thirds of the states elected his ass...
It would never have enough states to ratify it. No way.
They are insane with and for power.
Never happen, now if we could get term limits for Senate and House we would be doing something. Wind Bags just stick around and do nothing.
