Starbucks Coffee wants U.S. consumers to jump on president-elect Barack Obamas volunteer bandwagon and pledge to join one of his community service corps.
Obama and incoming first lady Michelle Obama want Americans to do community service the week of his inauguration Jan. 20. and commit this year to one of his so-called national service corps that will do volunteer work in schools and related to the environment.
Starbucks said it will offer free tall coffee beginning Wednesday through Sunday for customers who fill out community service pledge cards at the coffee chains locations.

That will probably be the new pledge in schools.
What’s Lavazza? Didn’t realize Seattle is owned by Starbucks. Gotta buy more beans and make my own to-go.
A free medium size coffee just for filling out a pledge card in the name of one of the Dallas Cowboys offensive linemen? Hey, that’s a deal . . . or would be if Starbucks coffee was any good.
(For those keeping score at home, that’s three burns all in one compact paragraph. Four, if you count the one against the largely unknown Dallas linemen.)
I’m already “donating” all the time I can. I am a taxpayer.
Yet another reason not to visit CharBuck$.
One pound of Starbucks coffee for an hour of Porta-Potty duty at the Obama Coronation.
Not quite this fast — which suggests that the fever may pass as quickly as it came.
LOL.
I sometimes call them Starburnt, but I think I'll start using Charbucks instead.
Might as well offer it now or the “brown shirts” will be taking it next.
I already belong to a community volunteer organization -
it’s call “a church”.
This can easily be classified as a mental disorder. The other side of BDS so to speak.
I’ll happily go in and fill out the pledge card with zero intention of doing the work.
Yeah, some “donating” - if you don’t “donate” the fruits of 1/3 of your labor, you can be forced to by the government with the inherent threat of deadly force for non-compliance.
Using fake names reminds me of ACORN. I doubt that Starbucks cares whose name you write down; they’ll just brag about the numbers. It’s part of the empty suit syndrome.
I'm sure the Obama fanatics out there will be sorely disappointed to find out that the linked group to Starbucks is financed by the Points of Light Foundation, and their honoring recently of George HW Bush's 20 years of efforts for his ‘Thousand Points of Light.’
Sure beats a fed bailout... And considering the list of local charities in my area who are participating, most are quite useful and will welcome the (possible) influx of helpers.
Sigh! It’s just an old initiative with a new name. Bush had the Faith Based Initiative. It worked. Now Obama thinks he can top Bush with a Coffee Initiative. WEAK, Barry, WEAK!
If I survive the next four years, my volunteer work will consist of working my butt off for any Republican who runs against BO....
Just putting my tag line back on. Must have swiped it with my mouse by mistake.
Goodbye Starbucks. I held on as long as I could. I will never step foot in the stores again. Their coffee ain’t the best, but usually the staff are friendly and remember what I drink. Too bad because I spend upwards of $1000 per year in there.
