Barack Obama's historic train ride to Washington on Saturday drew large, cheering crowds of people who braved freezing weather and gathered along the tracks in cities and small towns along the way in hopeful anticipation of getting a glimpse of the nation's next president.
In Baltimore, Maryland, alone, about 40,000 people stood shoulder-to-shoulder in the cold to greet Obama as he stopped on his way to his Tuesday inauguration.
His welcome was raucous and animated, as the sea of people cheered, waved and took pictures. Tears rolled down one woman's face as Obama spoke. "We love you, Obama!" another yelled out. "I love you back," Obama answered calmly, eliciting a roar from the crowd.
The same emotions were expressed up and down the tracks on the 137-mile journey, a trip that started in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and retraced the train ride Abraham Lincoln took on his way to becoming president in 1861. Watch Obama share the love »
As he did so often during his campaign, Obama drew upon American history in his remarks to pose a parallel to the country's current challenges. He noted the struggles of the colonials, the "first patriots," against the British.
"They were willing to put all they were and all they had on the line," Obama told the crowd in Baltimore. "Their lives, their fortune, and sacred honor for a set of ideals that continue to light the world: that we are all equal. That our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness come not from our laws but from our Maker."
Later he said, "the American Revolution was, and remains, an ongoing struggle in the minds and hearts of the people."

Get ready for the new mantra of “sacrifice”. First up will be the promise of middle class tax cuts. Obama will say he looked at it and will not be able to do this. We will need to sacrifice for the greater good. Just like the founding fathers put their fortune on hold, we will need to do the same.

As far as your “New” declaration of Independence that you say is needed . . . do you know something we don’t know ? Are we going to need another Revolution ? We just elected you, and now we have to think about “revolting” against you ? I thought it was gonna be all happiness and love when you took office, and now you’re talking about a revolution ?

You can think (and pound into the mush minds of this country) that we are riding in on the wave of change, by comparing Obama to Lincoln, but you are nowhere near correct in comparing Obama to Lincoln in any sense...
There is no fooling this crowd on Free Republic at all...
I can totally understand the complete capitulation of the MSM across the board in the upcoming coverage of this historic event...But if you go back and look at the past changes of command, you would be hard pressed to find anything remotely resembling this type of honeymoon before it begins...
With all that is about to begin...

LOL! 40,000 is a pretty sucky turnout but there was no free concert or cheese and it was sweltering due to global warming.
I think Reagan pulled a bigger crowd in some small town in the Midwest on a train stop. Sarah Palin pulled bigger crowds in smaller towns during the election.
Watch early films of Hitler and you will see the same mindless zombies (as those in DC this Tuesday) lining up to listen to Satan and the beginning of the end for Germany.
