More lasts today
This morning President & Mrs. Bush departed the White House for Camp David, Maryland, where they will spend their last weekend as the First Couple before Tuesdays inauguration.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice gave her final press conference today at the State Department in Washington. She also met with Israels Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni. Dr. Rices last official act as Secretary of State was signing a memorandum with Foreign Minister Livni that will help prevent arms smuggling to terrorists in Gaza.
And today Press Secretary Dana Perino delivered the Administrations final press briefing (Transcript). Dana took time to pay tribute to her predecessor Tony Snow and to all the members of the White House press staff. But one name was conspicuously absent from her remarks.
Q Dana, you mentioned Ari and Tony, but I don't think I heard you mention Scott. Was that a slight or was that -- was anything deliberate --Dana: No harm meant, I just didn't mention him.
What did you think of his comments [on MSNBC] last night?
Dana: I didn't bother watching them.
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island
I wish you could be there too, Majie! I would love to give
you a B I G real life hug! :D
Oh! So would I to You, Luvee!
:)
Well, those Photos of the Day featuring Tony Snow AND our
president just made the tears flow.
I miss Tony so much as I will this hero President! *sniff*
Thanks, Jonny!
I think all dosers will be there in spirit it is great that Dr Deb and LuvW will be there in person.
Too many “lasts”. It’s killin’ us!
Q Is there anything more you can tell us about who's going to be at Camp David over the weekend, foreign leader calls?Dana: Oh, it's just a small group of people. I think that his daughters will be there, and then Secretary Rice is headed up, and Steve Hadley and Josh Bolten are the ones that I know of. But it's not going to be a big crowd. I think it'll be just them, and it's supposed to be really cold.
Q What about Monday, Dana? He's coming back here. It's a federal holiday --
Dana: He'll be back on Sunday.
Does the President have any plans on Monday [Martin Luther King Jr. Day]?
Dana: No, nothing public. I'll try to let you know that day -- but I do expect we'll have some foreign leader calls that we can update you on, on Monday.
...
Thanks, everybody. (Applause.)
Thanks, Snugs.
I was even able to get off from work a bit early so I’ll have
time to get to the venue and find a place to park! LOL!
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice smiles during her last briefing at the State Department in Washington, Friday, Jan. 16, 2009.
He gave it his best. He was good and honest and decent and I for one will miss him.
Thank you Ms. Rice for a wonderful go of being SOS. You have
been the best one of all. MUCH better than your predecessor!
Israel's Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni (L) and US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (R) trade cheek kisses before signing a memorandum of understanding, aimed at preventing arms smuggling into Gaza, at the State Department in Washington, January 16, 2009.
I have got the impression over time that Condi and Tzipi Livni have developed a good relationship
