More lasts today
This morning President & Mrs. Bush departed the White House for Camp David, Maryland, where they will spend their last weekend as the First Couple before Tuesdays inauguration.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice gave her final press conference today at the State Department in Washington. She also met with Israels Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni. Dr. Rices last official act as Secretary of State was signing a memorandum with Foreign Minister Livni that will help prevent arms smuggling to terrorists in Gaza.
And today Press Secretary Dana Perino delivered the Administrations final press briefing (Transcript). Dana took time to pay tribute to her predecessor Tony Snow and to all the members of the White House press staff. But one name was conspicuously absent from her remarks.
Q Dana, you mentioned Ari and Tony, but I don't think I heard you mention Scott. Was that a slight or was that -- was anything deliberate --Dana: No harm meant, I just didn't mention him.
What did you think of his comments [on MSNBC] last night?
Dana: I didn't bother watching them.
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island
She left a great hole in my heart and life and for many months after her death which occurred during a difficult time for me as dad was in hospital in a broken elbow and hip.
Monday will be my last dose and I would echo your words and hope and pray that this thread will prove over the days, months and years to come that real and lasting friendships have been forged and will remain.
I also wish and I hope that others are prepared to help and participate in having a monthly thread running where news of the President and maybe others from his administration are updated as it becomes available.
Wonderful photos
amen
Whoops did not complete the sentance
What I meant to say about Gretchen was that she left and great hole in my life and heart and for many months I was desolute and I know if I had not had to cope with dad’s health problems probably would feel as heart broken and upset today as I was the day I found out of her passing.
She was one of the closest friends I have ever had and each day I would check with anticipation my email for a message from her.
I’m really going to miss the Dose thread. You all helped keep me sane this last year!
I hope your Dad is doing better.
Thank you to EVERYONE that put so much time and effort into making this thread the haven that it has been!!
I know how you’re feeling, jonny .... it’s
like a funeral .... all that’s dependable,
reassuring, and optimistic seems to be fading
away.
But I also know this is inherently a country
full of good, decent Americans, and I also
know God’s on His throne.
You’re so special... {{{jonny}}}.
That drawing is so tender and touching ...it
portrays this good man’s heart for people,
(just like yours) which is so huge, especially
for our troops. Once again, a masterpiece from
love.
Please pray for our troops ... God bless and
protect them now that their indefatigable CIC
and protector moves on. I’m grateful Sec.
Gates is there for awhile, which is a notable
shift from campaign rhetoric, now that reality’s
hit someone square on the coconut.

My thanks to all of you for all you
given to maintain this wonderful refuge.
I know what time and effort it takes.
We’ll always be Dosers ... I’ll never forget
the privilege it’s been to be a witness to
the daily life of a remarkable man who was
called by destiny, and handled the cards he
was dealt with exemplary courage and deep
honor and love for his country.
Millions of people, maybe 5-10 years from now,
will speak his name with respect and unending
gratitude for the blessed freedoms in their
lives. May we all be here to witness that time.
“... and an angel still rides in the
whirlwind and directs this storm”
Thank you all so much for the Dose.
You have all done a fabulous job.
God Bless you.
Thanks for #66 on Dana Perino who forever puts the term “dumb blondes” to the curb.
Would that she had been this administration’s press sec during the entire 8 years.........
We wish her and her family well in the coming years - a job well done imo at the WH.
I’ve been a huge supporter of President Bush since working on his primary and general campaign in 2000. Followed and supported hea nd VP Cheney daily.
What are we going to do when this great man, this great team, leave on Tuesday?
Please continue to pray for Snugs and her dad
The Katrina Hurricane reflects President Bushs term completely. He was the janitor who was left to clean up messes yet gets the blame for those messes. How in the world was anybody supposed to stop a hurricane that caused more damage than 10 nuclear bombs. In addition to the force of the storm the levies that were supposed to keep the water out of below sea level New Orleans were never fortified. The money that was sent to fix the levies had been stolen by corrupt local politicians and the money ended up in their freezers. Then GW gets the complete blame for not fixing the disaster in 24 hrs. Katrina was done masterfully considering the size and scope, but was twisted into a Bush disaster. They should have renamed it to Hurricane Bush.
Just like Katrina, every problem that GW is hated for can be directly traced to Dem neglect and corruption yet Bush gets the blame and hatred. The attacks on 911 were directly caused by the gutting and destruction of our intelligence community by Gorelick and the clinton regime yet President Bush was falsely blamed. That same CIA was handcuffed by clinton and the ones who gave supposedly false information on WMD and Bush gets blamed. He finishes the job that clinton should have done in Iraq and is vilified for freeing 25 million people from a brutal madman.
He made an attempt at solving gaping problems like energy, SSI and immigration only to be pilloried at every turn. Never mind that these issues are emotional traps, he had the courage to take them on and was stoned for those attempts. None of them have simple solutions yet he began the dialogue only to find out that these problems will never be solved since who wants the attacks that go with them.
His final trap was the financial meltdown. By all appearances it looks like he was performing a miracle keeping this economy moving forward for his first 6 yrs. He couldnt keep that going once Lola Pelosi and Dirtbag Reid took over the District of Corruption. Their Party undermined the Banking industry and turned Fannie/Freddie into slush funds for Dem financing. That eventually toppelled those gummit corps just like the NO levies flooding the entire economy and Bush got the blame.
President Bush was always the Lifeguard who if he failed to revive the victim was tried for murder. He was the scapegoat for anything that went wrong as was the penchant of PravdABDNC. He risked everything over and over since he put his Country far above himself. Millions may hate him since he took on huge problems that didnt have catchphrase answers. These were deeply complicated issues that were interwoven in corruption and deceit as well as DNC sacred cows. These issues had multiple layers and no matter how obvious the answer was going to be unpopular. Add to that a hostile opposition media that was going to fan any flames and he became an unpopular President.
The good news for us is that he doesnt really care about popularity. He understands that popularity and leadership are polar opposites. He knows that to be popular you have to do nothing and spend all your time campaigning to make yourself look good. You may be popular but the problems are still there and likely getting much worse. Popular Presidents kick the cans down the street to the next President George W Bush. He understands that his 25% popularity represents real attempts at solving and in many cases actually solving those problems.
Katrina is the perfect symbol of Ws Presidency. It was a storm too big to solve by the gummit, yet he did all he could and took all the blame. Will he become more popular in the future? Who cares since President George W Bush doesnt. His legacy is written in the lives of 50 million Iraqis and Afghani as well as no attacks since 911. That is worth 25% approval ratings to him.
Pray for W and Our Troops
Thanx for the ping.

Photo of the day
Although this photo is actually from yesterday, I think it would make a good photo of the day
The owner of the "George W. Bush" cafe Festim Cela, 26, shows a picture of him and his family with U.S. outgoing President George W. Bush and first lady Laura Bush January 17, 2009, who visited the cafe in the Albanian town of Fushe-Kruje, some 22 km (14 miles) from capital Tirana on June 10, 2007. Many beyond U.S. shores may welcome the end of Bush's presidency, but in zealously pro-American Albania, he is feted as a hero. Bush, the first U.S. President to visit the ex-communist state, dived into a throng of waiting Albanian fans and enjoyed a rock-star reception when he visited the town on June 10, 2007. Topi's bakery and Cela's cafe have turned into landmarks for Albanians and foreigners keen to see places Bush visited.

You are quite welcome
It really hurts how this good man was treated by lame stream media, the left and also by some on the right. He did not deserve this. He deserved much better
