Detroit's city's top lawyer has resigned and drawn outrage after describing one of the city's courts as a "ghetto court."
Mayor Ken Cockrel Jr. said Kathleen Leavey resigned Thursday after a complaint from the 36th District Court's chief judge, Marylin Atkins. He said Leavey's comments were "unacceptable and do not reflect the values" of his administration.
Leavey, who is white, said remarks she made during a meeting Wednesday with senior staff at the court have been taken out of context.
She told the Detroit Free Press that she told a court administrator that "people regard this as a ghetto court because of the way they treat people," through long lines and slow service.
But Atkins, who is black, got a different version.
In a letter, she accused Leavey of telling staff that "when the court stopped 'acting like a ghetto court,' the city would be more inclined to pay for our operations."
"How dare you!" Atkins said in the letter, obtained by the Free Press.
"Not only are your words insulting and racist to this court and the entire city, but they are highly unprofessional coming from the highest ranking attorney for the City of Detroit," the judge wrote.

Seems idiot courts are the same. In Dallas and Detroit.
Detroit is 92% black. Very few parts of the city are un-ghetto. I suggest looking on Youtube or elsewhere for video footage of city council president Monica Conyers (yes, the wife of Representative John ‘you’re all racists!’ Conyers.) This will show you all you need to know about Detroit.
There are homes there with a $1 list price that still do not sell, because the neighborhood is that horrific. When you can’t give away a house, your city is beyond fixing. Guess it’s all whitey’s fault...

As a member of the Wanye County Burbs, we are always getting hit with Jury summons. My guess, as the state depopulates and the number of felons in Detroit increases, they are starving for jurors. When they let people out man it is like high school letting out from a hated class, it is funny :-).... BTW the building I was in wasn’t the prettiest, The Trial rooms were fine the rest so so...

I used to work for a company with home office in Detroit. After visiting there a few times I consider Detroit to be the country’s first “Ex-city”. It is a pit. Cincinatti is not far behind.
But I digress...
