WASHINGTON (AP) U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine told President-elect Barack Obama's nominee to head the Department of Health and Human Services that Americans don't get their money's worth in health care.
In her meeting with Tom Daschle on Tuesday, Snowe said Americans spend $2.2 trillion per year on healthcare. Snowe says that's nearly 17 percent of the gross domestic product. But the Republican says America still lags behind other countries in quality of care and effectiveness of treatment.
Snowe says she wants to work with the Obama administration to achieve universal health coverage.

Is Snowe as easily snowed under as her state and her constituents?
Of course as this statement fits the MSM template no corresponding facts are needed.
I know from personal experience that Olympia Snowe can not be trusted to act for ANYONE other than Olympia Snowe!
Snowe, Collins, Voinovich, McLame....makes you sick just to think about them...
In her meeting with Tom Daschle on Tuesday, Snowe said Americans spend $2.2 trillion per year on healthcare. Snowe says that’s nearly 17 percent of the gross domestic product. But the Republican says America still lags behind other countries in quality of care and effectiveness of treatment.
Really Ms Snowe? Then explain why so many people from so many other Country’s come to America for their medical treatment?
Do you have any figures on Americans leaving the US for healthcare elsewhere?
Do you have any knowledge of socialized medicine of say England where they are trying to figure out who to let die because there system is going broke and they can not provide care for everyone?
Are the problems in Americas healthcare system? Sure. But seeing the government screw everything else up that they touch why should we allow you to do that to our healthcare?
Just wondering, did she name those other countries and the more effective treatments? If someone has a more effective treatment you mean they wouldn’t just sell it here if the FDA allowed it?
How would universal care lead to more effective treatments? The cost will soar as non paying insureds are added and there will be less money available for new treatments.
All these peopl ehave great healthcare and have been bamboozled into believing they need the government to provide it. I can tell you many many people think they are going to get free healthcare. They have no idea that duh someone (them) will have to pay for this.
I have had many people say they are waiting for the free healthcare and when you tell them they will be paying for theirs and everyone else’s they say “Ohh!”
Term limits please!

You ain’t the only one!
Another RINO in the tank for 0bama and his special brand of socialism...
Disgusting!
ElRushbo has said it - that we consevatives are the RINOs. We no longer belong in the GOP and are looking for another political home.
But so are others. Don’t you know? There are millions of PUMAs, who’ve been abandonned by the Democrat Party, which is now unashamed to have become the Socialist Party of America.
The need for a third party has come, one that is based on government by our U.S.Constitution is essential.
I’m In!
