The ACESII has saved lots of lives, but nothings 100% effective.Agreed. A Zero/Zero seat can't save your life if it can't clear the aircraft....

The geese are an ENDANGERED SPECIES!!!! How dare anyone so much as think about doing anything to interfere with their wishes.
They can do as they please. Congress said so.

Water landings usually wind up in disaster, pilot must have had all the stars line up for him/her.

I was flying US Airways from NAS to IAD. I had to change over in CLT. I got to CLT. I wasn't even told my flight to IAD was canceled. I had to learn it from the MUFIDS. A reason was not forth coming as to why my flight was canceled. In fact, I was met with hostility by even asking why it was. If I had treated a client that way I would be out of a job. It's not as bad as AirTran. Note to the Flight attendants on US Airways; When scooping ice for people drinks, please don't use your bare hands, thank you!
Three months later I was flying US Airway from CLT to IAD, guess what happened?

You would have had a stew on each side of you who would have given you a big kick in the can to help you out! (and probably did in a couple cases) ...
And if that didn’t do it, the four passengers behind them would have given them a small hand if they needed it!
LOL

True, the intact plane and passengers will be useful... but this really isn’t unprecedented... unless I’m all wet with my memory today.

The
CH-54 is still in use fighting fires, logging, installing ski lifts, etc.

Plane is now moored at the shoreline near Stuyvesant High in NYC.

First time I read this, I did a bit of a double take.
The second time, I just laughed like crazy...
Wondering if they’ll outfit it with an anchor, too.

Plane is now moored at the shoreline near Stuyvesant High in NYC. Yeah, those Stuyvesant nerds will figure out what happened.

Just got home and trying to catch up. What an amazing photo.

It’s the first composite airliner to perform a water landing. That in and of itself is significant.
It’s also the only airliner in something like 20 years to successfully land in the water intact.

I’m not going to go into the engineering reasons that I don’t believe a screen of any kind is able to work to alleviate this, but I am sure you can earn many millions of dollars if you are able to invent one that will.

In defense of the pilot in that video clip, his emergency landing was “less successful” because he was landing on an ocean, with no fuel, and an idiot’s gun to his head.

Well, it’s an object lesson for them - do your jobs well and make sure your products are this well designed.
That said, I think it was the only convenient place to tie the thing up.

Any chance they could pull the goose carcasses out of the engines, fire 'em up and fly it out of the water? LOL!
The bird bones ain't the problem. The shattered compressor blades, disintegrated bearings, perforated fuel system, melted electrical system etc are hard to clean out of a shredded engine.
Lucky none of the passengers were killed by ejected shrapnel.

I admit to being very surprised that it has been 20 years. The composite aspect of it is certainly of some value.

Well, technically, it’s now a boat of sorts, or at least a “floating structure.” And yeah, apparently they’ve tied it off to the railing of whatever its next to - I wouldn’t be surprised if they’d put some anchors on it to keep it from floating off, just in case.
