The damages are fixed by law in the fair debt collection laws. ($1000.00)

State or Federal? According to what I have listened to several million can be lawyers fee from someone who violates Federal Law as these people are doing.

Laurie Crimeni said her son had no assets or estates to pay the debt he left behind, and all of the accounts were exclusively in her son’s name.

because he probably lived in their basement.

I still get several calls a week (if not daily) from credit agencies looking for my ex-wife and I have been divorced for over 11 years, have lived at two different homes and changed my number twice. They’re relentless.

I simply have to screen all my calls.

Glad that solution worked for you. I used get at least one call a week from credit agencies and lawyers looking for a woman who has my telephone number printed on her checks.

A couple of months ago the calls stopped, right about the time I got a call from a correctional institution looking to verify charges for telephone calls. I figure she’s in jail now and trying to scam their telephone service. LOL

Not sure.
His brother was out of work awhile (he cannot seem to get along with ANYONE being his boss), so....
He likes to spend money, so I think he had indeed run up a lot of CC debt.
Hubby asked the caller what address and phone # they had for the brother and told them it was correct and agreed to pass along a message (which he did pass to his brother).

yes, it would be a wonderous FEDERAL class action.

The violation of the collection law is independent of the actual debt.

11 years?

I believe the longest statute of limitations in the USA on this stuff (absent an actual judgment) is six years.

negative information is on a credit report for 10.

The law regarding credit reports needs to change to drop negative information after the statute of limitations runs out.

There are regulations (federal) regarding attempting to collect and uncollectable debt.

11 years?

They are not hounding me for money, I don’t owe them anything. They are trying to locate my deadbeat ex-wife who continues to build up bad debt.

Since her credit report shows me as an ex-husband they figure they can harass me for her current contact information.

I would give it to them if I thought it would stop the calls but I know it won’t (I tried it before) and the only people I dislike more than my ex-wife (who put be in $32 K worth of credit card debt and then left me holding the bag) is credit card collectors.

collectors are not allowed to do that either.

you are legally a stranger to your ex wife. They can not discuss or harrass you to get to her. period.

still, after 11 years the are precluded from attempting to collect an uncollectable debt. another legal violation.

What happened to the items that he purchased with the credit cards?

A friend of ours got in over his head and took an overdose on Christmas. He lives modestly but tries to help everyone else.

Don't you love watching the government give our tax dollars to these same rip off millionaires and bankers?

If they were executor of his will it might make legal sense, as heartless and pointless as it seems.

As long as they all get theirs, they couldn’t care less about the sheeple. Government is rewarding those that bankroll them. They heard us yell loud and clear. They rule, not govern.

My mother in law died on December 4th. She owed two credit cards a total of about $650.00. We contacted the cards companies told them she was deceased and requested a final bill. Three weeks after she passed we started getting calls from a lawyer about paying off her credit card. I told him that we were not dealing with him we were dealing with the card company. These guys were like wolves! The cards have been payed off.

Government is rewarding those that bankroll them.

Here's the problem - we're the people who "bankroll" them.

Really, the taxpayers pay for all the perks - the money they receive - the money they give away - the rent on the buildings they do "business" in - everything.

It's like a stadium a town builds - the taxpayers will pay for 99% of it and some kiss-ass company will come in and give the "city" ( read mayor and cronies) 1% and get naming rights. Sick and tired of being sick and tired.

When my ex-wife died I got a bunch of calls from HER creditors trying to get the money SHE owed them out of my ass.

I sent copies of the Divorce Decree, the Legal Notices I published in my local papers to all of them.

When they continued I instructed my attorney to file suit under the Fair Credit Act.

When all was said and done I'd 'won' a 15,000.00 judgment against the worst offendor.

I hired a Collection Agency to get my money for me. It was worth every dime of the fee I paid them.

That’s a given. The only money government generates is by taking it out of our pockets.
