Morgenthau, after being in charge of this economic debacle called the New Deal, finally sort of exploded in 1939 and said, We are spending more money than we have ever spent before, and it does not work, quoted Folsom. It is not rocket science to know.....
YOU NEED SECURE JOBS TO SPEND MONEY
Wow! My Dad always told me there was nothing new under the sun! He delighted in citing examples of things where I thought they were new and exciting were actually not new at all, just rehash or updates of something already done or envisioned. I hated it when he did that, but he sure was right!
Is it too much to hope that as a part of this financial meltdown we might actually start making and building things in America again?
I was disgusted to learn once again how ignorant the American electorate is these days. A survey I saw the other day showed low confidence in government to solve these problems, but a strong majority that wanted the government to act now to help the economy. To top it off, there were 42% of the people surveyed who were concerned that government would not raise taxes on corporations.
Now, where the hell do these people think jobs come from? While the confidence is low on government, they somehow are looking to government to create jobs. To almost half, the correct solution is to suck more money out of the economy and into government...and the source of this money would be the very companies that need to be adding to their payroll.
We are in serious trouble right now, and it is due to a very ignorant population.
