Someone needs to take the crayons away from little timmy, he thinks he’s a journalist again.
If they do manage to drill on Georges Bank, I hope they don’t find a drop of oil and go broke drilling for it.
Ye flippin' gods! The lack of knowledge of the "press-titute" class is astounding. "Massive oil and gas rigs" have been working full out "with delicate ecosystems supporting multiple marine species" in the Gulf of Mexico for more close on to 75 years, and the "multiple marine species" LOVE the rigs. They set up shop right in the rig structures, proceed to "do their thing" and multiply. Most of the best fishing is to be found near "massive oil and gas rigs".
I doubt that the "multiple marine species" around Cape Cod will like the oil and gas rigs any less than those in the Gulf of Mexico.
“My fondest hope would be that a gigantic Canadian oil spill befouls the gay beach that the author frequents.”
“May I join you in that fervent prayer”
My fondest hope is that you are both indulging in a bit of ideological hyperbole, sophomoric chest thumping, and are not that monumentally obtuse.
So I fervently pray.
Find another thread to befoul, my fine feathered troll.
For the oppressed socialists of Massachusetts the only sane solution to this atrocity is mass suicides! Anything less would be tacit approval and passive participation in genocide!
We drill, you get the oil... same deal as in Alberta!
Welcome, fanfan.
The common sense seems to be drifting north :)
They will drill on the Banks and then you guys in the NE will buy to oil to keep yourselves from freezing in the winter. If you close down nucs, won’t drill, won’t allow gas to be piped in..well you deserve to freeze, or pay big time for foreign oil.
Why couldn’t you put a tarp over the hatch opening? With those winds, you were lucky not to have been hit, or the hatch to have damaged something.!
“Stick it up your f-stop.”
My prayer has been denied...you ARE obtuse.
Thanks for posting this article.
And for a break in your reading entertainment....

We were able to improvise a repair and secure the hatch opening. The concern, we had some 2000 nautical miles ahead of us until landfall at Horta in the Azores. If we experienced gale force winds (although unlikely in June) the boat could be in jeopardy with only a make shift repair on the exposed foredeck. We elected to turn back to Portland, ME.
The following year, June 2001, we had a successful trans-Atlantic crossing.
You were lucky it happened while fairly close to land, but it must have been a great disappointment to have to turn back. Sounds like quite an adventure, and I’m glad you were able to go the next year! How many were in your crew?

Exactly. The oil rigs would give the fish shelter from the Spanish and Norwegian factory-fishing ships, too, and therefore should be built as soon as possible to help preserve the fishery.
