Washington, DC, Jan. 13, 2009 (CNA) -- In his first lengthy article explaining his position after the election of President Barack Obama, Pepperdine University Professor Douglas Kmiec is accusing right wing Catholic bloggers" of distorting his position, attacking him personally, and potentially poisoning the relationship between the Holy See and the future administration of President Barack Obama.

I’ve grown long weary of anti-war arguments being dressed up as something else.
If you want socialism but you want it to be officially sanctioned by the US Government, then just say so. If you want to have illegal immigration unfetted and are willing to overlook 1.4M abortions each year as the price, then just say so.
But making legalistic remarks about how Obama is ‘different’ when you can’t point to a single legal piece he has ever seen, written or edited which points to another remotely ‘different’ about The One. I’ve yet to see anything about Obama which is different in a legal sense. So without evidence, I have to continue to believe that
Kmiec is either self-deluded or he is continuing to lie about his real defection from reality.
Gosh, that sounds so -— Calvinist
Nice job quoting scripture
That's what Jesus did when he chose to confront the
Powers and Principalities of His day (and this one)
The Catholic leader is a Gollum.
A hate-filled blogosphere, argues Kmiec, after defending the sincerity of Obamas religious beliefs, feeds a politics of odium, misleading people of faith and good will, diminishing and at times obliterating our ability to know one another....Sadly, neighbor-love is not what has overwhelmed my in-box since my Obama endorsement. Instead, right-wing blogs and their readers have launched missiles of hate, delivering ad hominem invective of an astonishing vehemence and crassness.
The anti-Christian half of the blogosphere, with its pathological abomination of religion and its vocabulary of "Xtian," "Jeebus," "fundie," etc., is far more warped with hatred. But they left poor widdle Dougie alone, so they're okay.
Professor Kmiec later laments in his essay that to be remade by a hateful blogosphere has its price, Ive learned. I worry that such invitations to speak at Catholic colleges, and the fruitful exchanges these invitations make possible, will be fewer.
One would hope! Catholic institutions are not supposed to support abortion, ever, ever, ever.
One member, he says of the U.S. hierarchy, whom I greatly admire has renounced our past association, writing, We are not friends, professor, and answering my invocation of Christian brotherhood with a curt retort: I do see you as a brother in Christ -- a brother who is serving an evil end....Kmiec doesnt reserve blame to right wing Catholic bloggers alone. In his essay, he says a role were played by unfortunate remarks, like the ones of Archbishop Raymond Burke calling the Democratic Party the party of death,
Truth hurts, sonny.
Kmiec also confesses that when America magazine blogger Michael Sean Winters speculated that the Obama administration might name him as ambassador to the Holy See, he was flattered and started seriously thinking about the possibility....But he claims that neither God nor the president-elect had an opportunity to answer before the blogs were recycling their various calumnies, and adding now an anonymous voice allegedly saying it would never happen.
Overwhelming narcissism and self-pity is a really unpleasant combination.
Kmiec is about as “Catholic” as my cat!
Oh that wasnt direct at you...more for pro-choice catholics like Biden ....sorry for any confusion...
Unless you're an unborn baby, aka a punishment, in utero or you survive an abortion, then "the messiah" bears plenty of malice and no charity towards you.
None apology needed,
and sorry for the confusion on my part
I was just having fun
with this far too serious subject.
In the tradition under which I was raised,
being accused of Calvinism
is a high compliment :^)
Thank you for the list.
How do you see Kmiec’s position and reasoning?
Does he not ignore the plain words of the commandment: “Thou shalt not kill?”
How can any Christian justify such a position?
Obama will NOT fake out the POPE, buddy.
The serpent speaks.
To Kmiec, whatever your beliefs, DO NOT CLAIM THEY ARE CATHOLIC. Murder is a sin; abortion is murder. Ergo, ipso facto, and you and 0bambi can slice it anyway you want, abortion is a sin. Knowingly committing a sin - and not be repentant - is a one way ticket to damnation.
Not my rule, it's God's rule.
Pepperdine University Professor Douglas Kmiec is accusing "right wing Catholic bloggers" of distorting his position, attacking him personally, and potentially poisoning the relationship between the Holy See and the future administration of President Barack Obama....y'know, because Kmiec and his false messiah are one.
Thanks for the summary.
Any man who wants to be our President and says “it’s above my paygrade to know when life begins” ....... should never be considered. He sounds just like those black robed judges in their Roe v Wade case.
Victim, see my tagline.....
I don’t care what your beliefs are or who you are there is only this fact-
The Ends NEVER justify the means, no matter how small the means or how great the ends. period.
These assclowns may have to wait until judgement day to get their reward, but justice delayed is NOT justice denied. Maybe someday the scales will fall from their eyes, but, then again, maybe not.......
Dougie, no REAL Catholic voted for Obama, only CAtholics in Name Only like you voted for him. Go to Confession and then repent and amend your ways. (And you just might be able to receive Communion again!)
That one really sticks in my craw - Obama's claim that he opposed born-alive infant protection "because it was already law."
That is such a freaking lie.
The Illinois law he claims "already" protects these babies uses the same weasel-word language as Roe v. Wade, i.e., the concept of "viability."
What this means is, if the born-alive aborted baby is not deemed "viable" --by the abortionist-- then in the eyes of that law, the baby deserves no medical assistance or even comfort-care!
Obama even admitted that a bill calling for a second doctor's opinion on "viability" of the born-alive child would put "too heavy a burden" --on the abortionist!
There is no need to distort Obama's position. He stated that knowning when life began was above his pay grade. He has been a tenacious advocate for abortions. Put those 2 together and one can only arrive at the conclusion that since he admits he doesn't know when life begins and yet strongly fights to abort babies, even if they may be human by his own defintion, then one can only conclude that Obama is evil. That's not a distortion...that is taking Obama at his word and at his actions.
If Kmiec (once a professor at Catholic University waaaaay back when he was still Catholic or at least appeared to be) wants to spread disinformation on Catholic campuses to the effect that it is even possible to remain Catholic while sucking up to Hussein Obambi, the baby-killer queen, for political patronage or otherwise, well, Dougie, thanks but no thanks and any priest with spine will deny you the sacraments as well.
If Dougie were appointed US Ambassador to the Vatican, his credentials should be refused by Pope Benedict XVI. Just getting warmed up for four more years of active duty in the right wing blogosphere. Being on offense is a lot more fun than being on defense.
