I think the use of cell phones in cars should be banned. I can’t count how many times some D/A with a phone stuck in their ear has darned near made my wife a widow and my kids Fatherless. I do have to admit cell phone are a useful tool in an emergency, but gabbing on the thing just for the sake of gabbing is dangerous.

That’s what bluetooth or hands free is for.

But, you could just as easily ban women with kids in the car from being on the road seeing as how much time they spend tending the kids as they do paying attention to the road.....

I’m with you. I’ve seen ‘em blow blow through red lights, stop signs (almost t-boned me with that one), turns from the wrong lane...you name it.

Well, perhaps is they just make it illegal for women and teenagers to talk on cell phones, that will solve the problem.

: )

Do you know how many businesses this would kill ? I know it would kill ours.Any business that uses service trucks, home health aides, visiting nurses, delivery drivers, shipping trucks, parts runners; basically anyone who doesn't just go to an office or factory and work there.

I agree completely. They should be banned. I actually had a guy in a truck with a trailer almost crash into the side of my pickup in a gas station at 5 mph. He was busy trying to talk while pulling out and obviously could not walk and chew gum at the same time.

I think they should be banned in grocery stores having been run into by a woman’s cart who was busy describing to someone the cereal she was buying.

You'd think it was a no-brainer. The roads are full of such morons. They drift out of their lanes on the highway. Don't signal when changing lanes because their one free hand is 'busy' doing something else. Often they're going 10 miles or so below the speed limit while 'chatting' on the phone. The police really need to crack down harder on this. It's an extremely dangerous thing to do.

Doesn't matter what he wants us to stop. Just make it out to be 'safe' and useful idiots on all sides will go along!!!

And that's what I bet 75 to 90% of talking on the cell phone in a car is--unnecessary chatter. I think if some people could have the thing permanently implanted in their head, they would. Still I don't know that I support a ban.

And because some people cannot handle driving cars, they should all be banned, too. Can openers and toasters, while you’re at it, as well.

If we banned gabbing the cell phone companies would go broke in a month.

I used to think that way but I have come to realize that most
of those D/A’s would be D/A’s cellphones or not.

“... but gabbing on the thing just for the sake of gabbing is dangerous.”

And gabbing is what most of it is. Nearly everyone I hear yakking on their cell phones in the super market - men and women - are discussing what they are buying. Should they get this, should they get that etc.

Cajoling their kids to accept that the latest frankenfood cereal is sold out and they will have to make do with last month’s flavor concept. (raising thoughtless entitled children is a whole other story)

How did people ever shop for food in the dark ages - like the 1980s and a lot of the 1990s?

"I think the use of cell phones in cars should be banned."

Why not ban talking to the person riding with you ... because we have already established that conversation is dangerous. To make it easier, why don't we simply pass laws against talking of any kind while in vehicle!

Every time there is a thread dealing with proposed bans, whether it be food or otherwise, there are always those here that will reveal how 'conservative' they are and jump on the nannystate bandwagon. It is really discouraging.

Then the cops shouldn't be allowed to talk on their radios, run radar or play with their computers.

They give up their toys, I'll give up mine.
