Bush to give farewell address Thursday night

President George W. Bush will give a farewell address to the nation Thursday night, billed by the administration as a chance to reflect on his tenure and welcome Barack Obama without fighting old battles one last time.

Bush will deliver the speech, expected to run 10 to 15 minutes, from the ornate East Room of the White House. He will have a small audience of people in the room, chosen for their stories of personal courage.

White House press secretary Dana Perino said Monday that Bush will "uphold the tradition of presidents using farewell addresses to look forward — ....

*snip*

Perino said the speech will be the last scheduled public event for Bush as president until he appears on the North Portico to greet Obama on Inauguration Day, which is Jan. 20.

Bush has proved to be a very confused man. His compassionatism has proved an abject failure. He, and his DC type republican elites sold us down the river thinking that those types they were so compassionate towards appreciated it.

All folly, listen up Bush, they are not grateful, nor do they wish to be. They are those that feel entitled for whatever reason they choose. They aren’t interested in compassion, they prefer voting for those that will just take it from those they envy and hate for their success. That is why they voted for Marxist Democrats.

That is why your premise is a total failure Bush. A failure that actually enabled these people to stay and put up shop on the RAT plantation choosing to be 3rd world citizens for a very long time.

You did them no favors Mr. Bush, and you and your type like Juan McCain, were rewarded as losers.

You know I love ya, buddy, but....
The OP meant this to be a nice trip down memory lane. He even posted specifically requesting this not be a Bush basher thread.
Who then could be considered cockroaches here? Be honest.

By the time the OP made their wishes known back at post #14, the Bush-bashing ponies had already left the barn. And the BushBots started slinging the usual stuff around, and you know me DCP, I give as good as I get.

I know you have a lot o' warm fuzzies for our outgoing President, so I'll defer to you and only to you on this.

Watch your back in that Beltway-encircled asylum, ok?

And Happy New Year.

The party as a whole ran as fiscal conservatives but did a damned fine job of spending like democrats during the six years we ran things.

I don't think we really had/have any idea how democrats like to spend, but we're going to find out...very, very soon.

As for President Bush ...we'll not agree with everything a President does or with the decisions he makes, but then we don't have all the information or briefings. Yes, mad as heck at him over the border issue, immigration...and yet proud as hell he still was able to protect us from other major attacks. Confused as hell over the economic mess, but you know 8 years ago he inherited a recession. And we did have growth during his tenure.

Is he going to push for the 2nd half of the TARP? Maybe a newspaper bailout?

MY take on what his last speech should be...

“My fellow Americans...
Tonight, I come to you for the last time from the Oval Office of the White House. From this chair, I have spoken to you at various times and for various reasons. Usually, when I speak to you from this chair, it has something to do with a crisis or problem of some kind. Economic hardships, explanations of what our military is doing, and yes, tragedies such as the horrors of September 11th, 2001.

“All those speeches were done by speechwriters, using language that was meant to sound eloquent while also getting across what I wanted to say to you, the American public. Tonight, however, this speech is from my heart. Although I may not have been born there, I am a Texan, and we Texans speak plainly, from our guts, and we tell you just how we feel. Here, the last time I will get to come before you, I will tell you my true feelings.

“First off, I feel I need to give a special ‘thank you’ to the fine men and women of our Armed Forces. During my time in office, I have asked you as your Commander in Chief to do some hard and terrible things. And every single time, you have gone far and beyond the call of duty to represent our nation. I cannot thank you enough for all the sacrifice you have made and the hardship you have endured. I pray that God will bless and strengthen you in the days to come.

“A little over two months ago, this nation elected Barack Hussien Obama as the man who will succeed me. If you voted for him, I think y’all made a whopper of a mistake. He has no qualification to be President, has even less to be the Commander in Chief of our nation’s military. Even as my time in this office comes to a close, there is still, in some circles, a shred of doubt as whether or not this man is even qualified to enter this office due to his citizenship.

“Why y’all voted for him is a mystery to me. If I had to guess, I’d say it’s likely that the constant whining, crying and anger from the press over the last 6 or 7 years probably brainwashed you into making that mistake. To those who voted for for him, I will say that I hold no personal animosity against you. However, I do question your judgment. You were led to believe that anything was better than me...and now, you’ll get to find out if that was true.

“As for my critics...mostly the press, but also the members of the Congress who, for the last 8 years I’ve been here, have harangued, mis-quoted, taken out of context, slandered, criticized, threatened, and basically tried to make me look incompetent and foolish, I have only this to say....

“You can kiss my all-American ass.

“You cretins wanted me gone, and now you have your wish. It’s too bad we don’t hang people for treason anymore, because every one of you jokers would be swinging from the nearest tree.

“Over the last eight years, I have done the best that knew how to do. I have tried to do what is right, and I admit, I haven’t always succeeded. I am only a man, prone to mistakes and sins, as are we all. The office of the President of the United States always has a profound effect on the man who holds it. As I am sure you have seen, many who become President and enter the office with youth and vigor come out of the experience with an aged and tired look...if they come out of the experience at all, and several have not, for various reasons. I consider myself blessed to have survived these previous eight years, and while I am honored to have served as your President. I am now just as glad that I don’t have to deal with this after noon next Tuesday.

“I can’t say what the future holds, but as for me and my dear Laura, our plans are to move back to Texas and relax for a while. After the previous eight years, I think we’ve earned it.

“Thank you for the privilege of being your President. Good night, God bless you, and may God bless the United States of America.

Thank you Starwise. I will be watching Thursday and on January 20th, not to see Obama but to accompany President Bush on his last day.

I’m looking forward to having him back home.

Most Gracious Heavenly Father, my heart is filled with the greatest sorrow, and my tears are overflowing, for soon our Brother President will leave the People's House. No matter the circumstance in our national life, how comforting to know that a man of God dwelt within its walls ... that he respected every aspect of its past and prayed for its very future. Love of country was written on his face ... love of its people was his joy. You braced him with steel against unrelenting and vicious attacks, yet not an unkind word passed his lips.

Bless this Servant of God in a mighty way, O Lord ... may his years be filled with the joy of family and the love of friends and the continued prayers of the Body of Christ. No matter what history writes, the only words that count are these ... “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

I’m really sad to see him go especially with the rookie who is about to take over. I am hoping against hope that he directs something towards those who have spewed so much hate towards him but I’m sure he has too much class to tell them to “bite me” or just give them the one finger salute?

“...you kept us safe, against all odds, for 7+ years.”

I really think that we were lucky. How can you keep any country safe when you allow open borders, the entry of illegal aliens and those that hate this country. No, I am convinced that we were lucky and I am also convinced that our luck is running out, soon.

Thank you President Bush for putting integrity back in the White House. I for one will miss knowing that you succeeded in protecting my family. I fear for my family, my country’s well-being in the next four years. Some how I feel people are going to be sorry for judging you so harshly. You kept us safe and I’m sure that wasn’t easy.

I hope you, First Lady Laura and your family enjoy more time together at Crawford.

God Bless You!

Freegards,

jhw61.

Thank you STARWISE.

You haven’t liked President Bush since he ran in the primaries. I remember, you see, because I was here then.

So spare me your “grade” of his efforts. You are just using yet another thread about the President to attack him.

I suppose you will sort of fade away after January 20. President Bush will be gone, and you won’t have anyone to gripe about.

What, you say you don’t like Obama? Well, then, why did you fail to appreciate a good and honest man who did the best he could with the cards he was dealt?

GW has keep your ungrateful arse safe from a 9/11 fate.

Too bad he opened the doors for all the illegals to enter, and believe me, illegal alien gang-bangers have killed more Americans since Bush took office than than that bunch of Saudi jihadists on September 11, 2001.

No, I am convinced that we were lucky and I am also convinced that our luck is running out, soon.

Nonsense. Good men and women, in uniform and out, have been hounding bad guys for 8 long years, killing them when they find them and keeping them too busy to coordinate large attacks on American interests when they can't.

Calling that simply luck is, to put it nicely, bs.

Those doors have always be opened, and unfortunately were propped wide open by the late Great Ole Ronnie, with his real amnesty. BTW I loved Reagan and think he was a great POTUS; however, under Obie those doors are going to be removed from their hinges. You third party voters assisted Obama, while those of us voted against him. This is your train wreck. You own it.
