Bush to give farewell address Thursday night

President George W. Bush will give a farewell address to the nation Thursday night, billed by the administration as a chance to reflect on his tenure and welcome Barack Obama without fighting old battles one last time.

Bush will deliver the speech, expected to run 10 to 15 minutes, from the ornate East Room of the White House. He will have a small audience of people in the room, chosen for their stories of personal courage.

White House press secretary Dana Perino said Monday that Bush will "uphold the tradition of presidents using farewell addresses to look forward — ....

*snip*

Perino said the speech will be the last scheduled public event for Bush as president until he appears on the North Portico to greet Obama on Inauguration Day, which is Jan. 20.

Bush did nothing to prevent the Washington DC area sniper attacks, perpetrated by John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo in 2003.

I've seen some assinine things posted here at FR but this one is a beaut.

May it be, BlueAngel, that the “change” people are looking for will be a change of heart.

I am SO glad you will be clipping your toenails, so that you won’t be here to comment on the speech.

If I remember, you are Catholic. You should be grateful to a man who pushed pro-life policies more than any other president, including Reagan.

I think you should think about your comments, and maybe go to Reconciliation.

And I am Catholic, too.

Perfectly wonderful and true. No one
walked in his shoes, or heard the
diabolical dangers afoot, every morning,
6 days a week for 7+ years ..

AND

have to analyze, develop plans, monitor
them, working with our fantastic military,
to seek the plots of the devils that patrol
this earth to destroy Americans and freedom,
and hope they configured the right people,
with the right plans in the right places in
time to prevent the dangers from landing here.

No one knows about the urgent phone calls in
the middle of the night that struck fear into
his heart and to his knees in prayer and drove
him back to the drawing board for consultations
and solutions.

He never relented .. he never wavered .. he
never tired of honoring and responding to his
most primary duty of safety of ur all. I feel
the very same way about Vice President Cheney,
grateful that we’ve been blessed by their intrepid
service to our country in these times.

Truly, “well done .. good and faithful servants.”

Thank you. You are a gem. {{Pegita}}

Sorry. I just realized I was remembering someone else.

mkjessup, I do know that to my best recollection you have never said one nice thing about President Bush. For whatever reason, you had an intense dislike of him.

That’s ok. People often take irrational dislikes to people because of their personality, speech, mannerisms, etc. Just don’t pretend that it was his policies that suddenly changed your mind. You have never supported him.

One thing is for sure - the next four (eight?) years are going to make us miss him even more.

So true! Especially if That One shirks his duties on intelligence and opens us up to attacks from Islamofascists.

For that, I salute him and thank him.

And let's never forget Roberts and Alito. These two are gonna leave a mark (on the marxists).

I hear Bozama intends to close Gitmo. I hope his toilet doesn't back-up when these clowns stuff a bible in it.

I think you’re right.

If you wanted to destroy a country, and they were allowing your forces to stream across their border, and shouting “racist!” at anyone who raised an objection, why would you do anything that might cause them to shut the border—like setting off bombs? No, you’d just keep streaming across the border quietly, building up your numbers until you had an overwhelming force distributed strategically all over the host country.

Well Miss Marple, I submit that your memory is not quite accurate, and if you were to take the time (not that I expect you to), you would find that in years past, I was one of the most enthusiastic supporters of GWB on FR, I voted for him in the 2000 primary, and in the 2000 general election, before my current incarnation on FR in March 2003. And you can be sure that I voted for him in the 2004 election.

Unfortunately, 'a funny thing happened on the way to the end of GWB's second term', and that was an abandonment of any conservative principles, a failure to find that veto pen that went all the way back to his first term, the failure to secure our borders, the failure to exercise even the slightest modicum of fiscal restraint, his throwing Don Rumsfeld under the bus, then John Bolton, he talked some real big talk about North Korea and Iran, but let's be honest here: North Korea and Iran are actually more of a threat now, than they were at the beginning of Bush's second term.

I will be the first to emphatically say that George W. Bush most certainly restored a sense of honor to the White House after the depraved shenanigans of one William Jefferson Blythe Clinton and his crew, and I am grateful for that.

The reality however, is that our outgoing President failed to defend himself, and his Administration from a lying, conspiratorial media working hand-in-hand with the Democrat Party, and that failure to stand up for himself consistently was correctly perceived as weakness, and that is why his political fortunes began to plummet, and that is why the GOP lost the Congress in 2006, and the White House this past November.

The fact is, I supported George W. Bush for a long, long time before it became apparent that he was no longer living up to his Oath of Office.

I am a Catholic, and a one-issue, pro-life voter. In my book, NOTHING justifies voting for a baby-murderer.

I voted for Bush twice, and I voted for Palin.

I have suffered from bona fide depression since November 4th. I think that Catholics who let it be known that they supported or voted for Obama should be denied Communion (But they won’t be.), just as anyone marching up to Communion in a Nazi uniform should have been denied Communion. (But they weren’t.)

But I can’t get all misty about the departure of Bush. He did virtually nothing to inform the American people about ANYTHING. The WORST communicator in the White House, EVER. On most issues, his thinking is utterly conventional—and conventional thinking is pointing our country in the direction of DEATH.

We have fiat money that is headed for the inevitable hyperinflation. We have 90% of children being raised by government schools that teach them collectivism—simply by EXISTING. They should be abolished. The best government schools teach them fornication. The more progressive schools teach them sodomy and provide transportation to abortion clinics.

Bush has attended to a narrow band of his duties, and done some things well. Other than preventing another 9/11, and appointing Roberts and Alito, he has done NOTHING to delay the demise of the United States.
