The U.S. Air Force is looking to replace the president's air force fleet -- possibly with an Airbus, FlightGlobal.com reports.
The USAF has reportedly posted a request for information seeking market sources who can provide three "widebody" aircraft to replace the Boeing VC-25 Air Force One.
The Airbus 380 has been named as a possible alternative, according to FlightGlobal.com.
A 2007 analysis of aircraft options found that it would be more cost-effective to replace the VC-25 rather than attempt to modernize it.

Times are tight folks.
We’re all cutting back and making sacrifices.
I think it’s time we consider replacing AF1 with a bus pass.

You’d think the USAF would have learned by now. And it certainly won’t be acceptable after the inauguration to have POTUS flying around in a French product.

Does he really need three? I’m sure he can get buy with a twin turbo prop.
Thoughts from a pilot?

I think its time we consider replacing AF1 with a bus pass. If public transport is all it's cracked up to be, you'd think this would be an idea whose time has come.

If I were elected President, Air Force One would be an AC-130.

These are very low time aircraft. There’s no reason to get rid of them.

If Obama wants Air Force One to be of foreign make, a Tupolev-144 SST would be the perfect plane for him, his staff and several members of Congress to take trips in. I think there is still one left.

I'm not a pilot ... but I'll suggest this:
anyway. Gawdawful waste of a perfectly good aircraft ... but what the heck. He has to have something, right?

Yup. It was on loan to NASA for a number of years as a supersonic research testbed.

What kind of retard even considers an aircraft that can only land at a few airports? Even the brightest future plans don't put the A-380 at more than a handful of airports.

So the government would buy a European made plane? Aren’t we citizens supposed to buy American cars to help out The Big Three? Boeing should ask for some bailout money, then someone in DC would react by nixing the Airbus plane in favor of a Boeing....

How many years did the 707 last as AF1? Wasn’t Reagan’s only flight on the new 747 AF1 his flight home after Bush won? It’s not that old, hell make him fly on a DC3.
