BEIJING, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- The "Mengshi (Warriors)" off-road military vehicle produced by Chinese automaker Dongfeng Motor surpasses U.S. Humvee in 12 out of 15 major battlefield performance indices, chief designer Huang Song has said.
Use by the Chinese military force has proven that "Mengshi" overtakes Humvee in 12 indices, including the loading capacity andoil consumption, and are well-matched with Humvee in three other indices, Huang was quoted as saying by Monday's Economic Information Daily, a Xinhua publication.
It took Dongfeng six years to develop the vehicle, which had undergone more than 200,000 hours of factory tests and more than 1.6 million kilometers of road tests before mass production.
The vehicle was formally equipped to the People's Liberation Army in 2007.
"Mengshi" has also passed various environmental and geological tests, including airdropping, high altitude and extreme heat and cold weather conditions.
With 75 patents, the 1.5-ton high mobility vehicle met all military requirements, said Huang.
It also won the first class award of national science and technology progress at the 2008 State Top Scientific and Technological Awarding Conference here last Friday.
This was the first such award won by the auto industry in 22 years.
Damaged American B-29 bombers, trying to find a safe place to land after a bombing raid on Japan, occasionally flew north to the Russian port of Vladivostok. But because the Russians hadn't declared war on Japan and were maintaining neutrality, the planes were seized and the crews "interned" in camps. They were eventually allowed to "escape" and find their way home through Iran, but the Russians kept the planes.
Of course we sent them lots of Lend-Lease, but not the B-29.
A metric ton is 2240 lbs.
So even at that, 1.5 X 2240 = 3360 lbs.
It’s either a typo, or the thing is made from tinfoil.
Well, I have a half ton pickup (1500 Z71), that weighs around 6,000 lbs. Of course GM makes a 2500 and 3500 models, so I suspect someone is not quite relaying the correct information in the article. You know the press. They’re idiots.
...or its the size of my ATV.
BTW Hummers are now equipped with devices that extract the water from the exhaust. Handy in the desert. Where's that one Chi-coms?
Nope, it’s special Chinese steel. The glorious workers paradise was able to either coerce or convince the element Iron (Fe) to give up some of it’s mass for the sake of proletarian brotherhood and unification in the fight against the running dog capitalists.
Note, there are the same amount of protons and neutrons, they’re just “lighter” than American ones...
> Here’s how it works. Some guy (who speaks with a New Jersey accent, hint hint) pulls up to the construction site and says to the foreman that he’s on his way back from a trade show. He has all of these brand new power tools, and he doesn’t want to pay extra to haul them home on the plane, and he’s willing to sell them for 50 cents on the dollar ... Expert counterfeiting, all the way down to the labels.
(Big Grin!) I bough mine at “Mitre 10”, which is one of New Zealand’s largest Home Improvement chains. They had pallet loads of the stuff...
Make no mistake: China is very capable of making very hi quality stuff.
I'm happy for you and your firm. However, that doesn't not in any way negate the decades of intellectual property theft that the Chinese have perpetrated. Billions of American dollars have been lost to Chinese intellectual property theft. Personally, I go out of my way to not buy anything made in China. They already lost me a long, long time ago.....
No, it doesn't. The communist philosophy gives absolutely zero respect to the entire concept of intellectual property: all new inventions belong to "the people," meaning Chinese government.
Billions of American dollars have been lost to Chinese intellectual property theft.
More like hundreds of billions of dollars, and millions of jobs. You'll get no argument here.
Personally, I go out of my way to not buy anything made in China. They already lost me a long, long time ago.....
I don't blame you one bit. The only thing I'm saying is that things are finally starting to change. China has reached a point where the communist philosophy is starting to give way to a more pragmatic approach. They realize that there's more money to be made by rehabilitating their image as an outlaw nation. Particularly in a case where it's one Chinese factory against another Chinese factory -- even if one of the two factories is owned by an American corporation -- Chinese courts will enforce intellectual property rights. This encourages more foreign investment in China, when the foreign investors have reason to believe they'll be playing on something approaching a level playing field.
Make no mistake: China is very capable of making very hi quality stuff.
No doubt about it. They're duplicating what the Japanese did after World War II, but on a much larger scale.
I think that it loosely translates to "fellatio".
