Beginning Jan. 16, Girl Scouts of the Moccasin Bend Council will be practicing Spanish as they ask customers to purchase the Dulce de Leche (DOOL-seh deh LEH-chay) cookies which means "candy of milk."
Inspired by the classic confections of Latin America, the all-new Dulce de Leche cookies are rich with milk caramel chips and stripes and have a hint of cinnamon.
This latest Girl Scout cookie adds an international flair to this year's Girl Scout Cookie Season. This new cookie also gives Girl Scouts a unique opportunity to celebrate Latin-American cultures and learn a little "Cookie Spanish" at the same time.
"The Cookie Program allows girls to put into practice life skills they learn in Girl Scouting," says Girl Scout CEO Linda J. Rath.
"It helps them use math skills to manage money. Our cookie program also teaches them the importance of developing business and entrepreneurial skills they need to succeed in tomorrow's workforce."
From Jan. 16 through March 13, Girl Scouts will be out in full force taking orders for this annual sale.
Cookies are $3.50 per box. Delivery on pre-orders will take place the end of February and first of March.
Girl Scouts will also be out in their community selling cookies in front of area businesses the weekends of Feb. 27, March 6 and March 13.
Girl Scouts will also be asking customers to purchase additional boxes of cookies to support the military in "Operation Taste of Home."
Customers will also be invited to write a letter of support and encouragement to be included with the cookies that the girls will ship.
If there isn't a Girl Scout in your neighborhood, you may purchase cookies at the Girl Scout Service Center, 1936 Dayton Blvd. in Red Bank, or contact the Council to request a Girl Scout troop take your order at 877-2688, 1-800-446-2472 or by e-mail: cookies@mbgsc.org.

dulce de leche means candy of milk?
I once saw a girl wearing a very tight T shirt with dulce de leche printed large right across her breasts and I asked her why she had italian for “two of milk” on her boobs.
She got mad and said it doesn’t mean “two of milk”, it means “very sweet”.
I just laughed at her and said, “no, it doesn’t”. But apparently, I had it wrong too.
“as long as they continue to sell Thin MInts I dont care what they call them!”
Those and Tagalogs, or whatever they call them now.
God forbid we’d eat food that doesn’t have an english name.
Excuse me, but that would be "Healthily-sized Mints" and "Stout Pacific-Islanders"...
I think it’s italian, not spanish. And It’s a very popular ice cream flavor.
I wish Spanish had been offered back when I was in school (the 70’s).
German (what little I retained) helps me personally very little. Even here in PA Dutch country.
If these girls learn a second language through the Scouting program, good on ‘em!
The word for that is "prejudice" or "bias."
I was having my cappuccino and a croissant wondering whether or not to have some french toast or an omelet. I decided to pass and wait until the luncheon special of a taco and burrito was available, being mindful that my wife was making penne arrabiata and a caesar for dinner.
Wes Luger: “I don’t think York was a suicide. She was on to something.”
Captain Doyle: “On something is more likely. You know as well as I that this guy’s cookies were laced with cocaine.”
Wes Luger: “No wonder I couldn’t eat just one.”

One cookie, one sign, one hero, one tradition till you wake up one day and wonder where all our culture and heritage went.
I still think that studying another language is part of any well-rounded education and it’s required for admission by virtually every college out there. Why shouldn’t Girl Scouts learn a little Spanish?
I had 2 weeks of german. Couldn’t make sense of any of it. I can read german and figure out the basic idea. But the spoken german language might as well be martian to me.
3 years of french. French is way easier to pick up.
Learning languages is excellent for the brain. ;-)
That's why I stay away from the fudge striped ones.
Give me your Thin Mints, your Samoas,
Your Do-si-dos yearning to be eaten,
The Dulce de Leche of your teeming shore.
Send these, the Tagalongs, milk-dunk to me,
I lift my plate beside the pantry door!
If only they could learn math, English, reading, geography and history, I'd be a happy camper. I'm sick of the ignorance I find myself surrounded by in any trip to the grocery store.
Yeah, that what this is all about a”well rounded education” Might as well have the Girl Scouts do ti cause Lord knows the schools aren’t. Hey we can get Home Depot and Lowe’s and almost every store in the country to help as well. Our schools can join in and hey even government documents. Maybe get our TV & radio stations and hell why not just change over to Spanish anyway as most of of consumers, workers & voters speak it anyway.
A well rounded education indeed! Sounds like you can use one.
