ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH -- One of the newest home owners in St. Augustine Beach, former 1972 Democratic presidential candidate George McGovern of South Dakota, said Saturday that he came to this area to enjoy its history and to escape the long winters in his home state.
"This is just what I need," he said. "I visited a few years back and was impressed. So, three months ago, I looked it over and decided to settle here. I've had a wonderful welcome from people."

I seem to remember that except for one failed business McGovern spent his life in "public service". Is it ungrateful of me to ask where the money came to buy this?
he bought the perfect house: two stories, four bedrooms in a quiet, upscale, non-gated St. Augustine Beach neighborhood.

Given his age, he probably should have opted for a one story house.

He won’t have to try hard to be a true son of the beach.

Hope he's got one helluva good air conditioning unit and doesn't mind spending summers indoors.

Just another liberal dim, trying to spend as much of the tax payers money as possible.
Spread the wealth--we all need to sacrifice so that people can continue to live on the dole...........

McGovern's first public service; 35 missions over Europe and a DFC.
I, for one, am grateful.

He’s a democrat, but I remember him to always be congenial.

I read in one of Stephen Ambrose’s books about George McGovern’s wartime experiences. He was a real hero, flying bombing missions over German positions in northern Italy, Austria and southern Germany from his base in southern Italy.

Also FWIW he’s been out in front in *opposing* “card check” i.e. the union thugs initiative to change from secret elections to public ones.

He'll be wlking up and down the beach at every low tide with his metal detector, looking for lost change, the occasional piece of jewelry......and who knows what else?

Congenial or sneaky? Hell, Barack Hussein Obama is "congenial". Fidel Castro is said to be fun at parties!

I resent the implication that military service immunizes you from criticism the rest of your life. Tell that to Duke Cunningham.

The lefties here in St Augustine are ecstatic. Folks like the “Grandmothers for Peace” nitwits who stand across from the Bridge of Lions with their ravingly offensive anti-Bush “peace signs” are practically fainting with joy. Yuck.
