Didn't all the TV stations in one city in NC (I think) shut down all their analog transmitters as a test to see how it worked? What were the results of that?
A coupon is not needed to purchase a converter box. But with boxes costing $80 in retail stores,
I call BS. The typical price point is $50 and it will probably drop to $20 after all the coupons are gone.

I suspect they’ll drop to $9.99 after the coupons are gone.

I agree the price will drop without the Government giveaway to pump up the price. It may not be $20 but it will be lower.

The station I watch most often for local news, WAVY-TV, out of the Hampton Roads area of VA did a test Tuesday morning. We made a point to be up and switch all TVs to that station at the appointed time. The result is we do not need converters boxes as all TVs received the digital signal just fine.

Even my local grocery store had lots of them on the shelves. I bet there will be quite a few people who will wake up on February 17 and not understand why their TV's can't pick up a signal.

That’s what I think...I sure don’t think the converter box is worth 60 bucks (which is what mine cost). I had the coupon, but I believe it’s a racket. Charging 60 bucks for a 20 dollar device...just to get the gov. money.

I was in Bend, OR over the holidays and on Jan. 2 the broadband provider shut down their analog signal. We were in a rented house, so we were a bit upset that we had to go spend money at a bar to watch the Sugar Bowl.

It wasn't just in NC. They did that here in Cleveland one night. They interrupted prime-time evening television and for about 15 minutes all you saw was the message that your TV needed to be converted.
A few day later they did a half hour program on how to ...
