The 'Misunderestimated' President?
BBC ^ | 1/8/09

Posted on 01/08/2009 6:34:03 AM PST by marshmallow

All politicians are prone to make slips of the tongue in the heat of the moment - and President George W Bush has made more than most.

The word "Bushism" has been coined to label his occasional verbal lapses during eight years in office, which come to an end on 20 January.

Here are some of his most memorable pronouncements.

ON HIMSELF

"They misunderestimated me." Bentonville, Arkansas, 6 November, 2000

''I know what I believe. I will continue to articulate what I believe and what I believe - I believe what I believe is right." Rome, 22 July, 2001

"There's an old saying in Tennessee - I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee - that says, fool me once, shame on... shame on you. Fool me - you can't get fooled again." Nashville, Tennessee, 17 September, 2002

"There's no question that the minute I got elected, the storm clouds on the horizon were getting nearly directly overhead." Washington DC, 11 May, 2001

"I want to thank my friend, Senator Bill Frist, for joining us today. He married a Texas girl, I want you to know. Karyn is with us. A West Texas girl, just like me." Nashville, Tennessee, 27 May, 2004

FOREIGN AFFAIRS

"For a century and a half now, America and Japan have formed one of the great and enduring alliances of modern times." Tokyo, 18 February, 2002

"The war on terror involves Saddam Hussein because of the nature of Saddam Hussein, the history of Saddam Hussein, and his willingness to terrorise himself." Grand Rapids, Michigan, 29 January, 2003

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." Washington DC, 5 August, 2004

Ohhh.... for the good old days.

I’m getting nostalgic already for the days when Bush was president and all we had to laugh at was his feeble attempts at communicating.

Instead we now we will have four years of corruption, scandals, Justice Department investigations, Special Prosecutors and more. You know, just like the Clinton years.

Misunderestimated and strategery may have been verbal lapses, but they are great neologisms with good use.

They also forgot that the BBC has less character, less integrity, less intellect than President Bush. Oh for the day when an expose’ is made on those who claim to be qualified to do journalism.

Obama is like an over-hyped bad flick, you see a doctored teaser every 5 minutes on TV for months, only after you pay money to see it you realized its a carefully formatted set of scenes and the actual movie sucks.

There is no political opposition. You won't have any of the above unless the target is a Republican. Elections count.

It won’t happen. Why do you think Barack picked Joe “Stand up Chuck!” Biden as VP?

He used Misunderestimated and Strategery on purpose. They think that he is so dumb that he didn’t know the difference.

President Bush may have mispronounced a word or two........but he knows there aren’t 57 states.

The absolute stupidity of the One was on display for these past years with the media ignoring or simply excusing his every gaffe.

Ahhh. but look. We have Blago-gate, Emanuel is on the verge of leaving, Richardson is already under the bus, Bammie is being ripped apart in the press for his silence on Israel/Hamas, all this and more!

And Swearing in day is still 2 weeks away.

I’ve got tons and tons of popocorn. And I’m gonna munch away the next four years just LMAO as Obama repeats the Clinton years. Hell, he is hiring every last Clinton goober we suffered through in the 90’s. This administration will be basically the third term of Billy J.

Oh... the bitter irony of those fools who voted for Hope and Change!!!

I may be wrong, but I believe “Strategery” was done on a SNL skit parodying him. I don’t think he used it.

They forgot all 57 states and “it’s above my pay grade”. Oh yeah. That’s right, they weren’t his.

Yes!!

I'm amazed, or maybe I shouldn't be, that many Freepers can't just sit back and enjoy them without turning it into an Obama bash. Whatever one thinks about George's presidency, it has to be said that his malapropisms, mangled syntax and poor grammar were funny.

I think it'll be more like the Carter days.
