WASHINGTON (CNN)Arizona Senator John McCain is adopting a major 2008 campaign slogan for a new political action committee designed to support not only his own planned re-election run in two years, but help him put his stamp on the rebuilding of the Republican Party.
The formation of the Country First PAC is to be announced Wednesday, two sources familiar with the plans tell CNN.
One of the sources called it the first official step of the GOP Senators re-election campaign. McCain made it clear not long after losing the presidential election that he intended to seek re-election to the Senate in 2010.
The second source said that in addition to supporting his own political ambitions, Country First would be a financial vehicle to help McCain help define the future of the GOP by recruiting candidates and driving the agenda.

I like JD. He has a daily radio show in Phoenix, on KFYI. I don’t get to listen to him that often because it is when I’m cooking dinner and I have to listen to Phoenix on the internet. I think he is the only one who can go after McCain, though, because I don’t see Shadegg or some of the others taking a chance on losing their seat in Congress to go after McCain. Hayworth, OTOH, really wouldn’t have anything to lose if he did it. I would vote for him, I think I could get a lot of people locally to vote for him over McCain, we have a very involved Minuteman group up here and they do not like McCain.
Hasn’t he figured out, yet, we’ve had all we can stand of him?
Was I on your list sir?
Ah, not so much now.
Mrs. MWT is working off the latest baby fat doing wind sprints for about an hour a day, so I bet she could pull this off.
How can we miss him if he won’t go away!
Exactly, frogjerk. What a huge barf alert this is...
Every where I turn I see someone is starting a “movement” for something or another, can we start one to kick him out of the Republican party before he manages to destroy it and all of us along with it?
Do you suppose he is planning to run again? I hope he isn’t planning to speak at CPAC this year since Palin received an invite? Sarah is pretty smart, I’m certain she knows he used and abused her.
I will lay a bet that he is first in line to push through Obama’s amnesty plan.
Are you aware that FR is an independent conservative forum, not necessarily a Republican Party watering hole? Furthermore, judging by your recent sign-up date and this vanity of yours, I would question whether you even know the difference.
The same way McCain threw Sarah Palin under the bus?
Mahalo??
You in Hawaii? One of Barak’s relatives??
BOO!
I’m assuming you don’t live in Arizona - based on your comments on McCain. I do, he isn’t as you describe. Why do you think he barely won the primary here last February? and why Napolitano was polling way ahead of him for the senate seat in 2010 before zer”O” plucked her out of our fair state for DC. Now if we can just retire McCain....
“McCain is a good man who has only supported his country and republicans even though you do not deserve it.”
You got one point right, we sure didn’t deserve that maniac.
And he supports RINOs, like Olympia Snowe, who he gave $$$ to when he was broke!
How about if we let him fill that PAC up with zillions of RAT dollars, and then sue the crap out of it for his throwing the election?
See post 146.
This is like Joe Hazelwood asking for money to continue to captain the Exxon Valdez.
Or Bill Buckner attempting a comeback as first baseman for the Red Sox.
I think John’s age is about to kick in big-time, so I pretty much agree. Your reasoning was sound as well. I don’t think he’d be viable either, but he sure can be a pain in the arse until then.
