Sarah Obama, 86, will fly from her native Kenya to attend the inaugural festivities, the Kenyan government announced on Tuesday.
Sarah Hussein Onyango Obama isn't actually related to the next president by blood - she was the third wife of Barack Obama's paternal grandfather. The two must speak through an interpreter as she knows only a few words of English.
But they formed a close bond when he first visited Kenya in 1988.
Sarah Obama will attend a pan-African celebration the night of the inauguration. It's not the first time she's been to Washington: she came in 2004 to celebrate her step-grandson's inauguration into the U.S. Senate.

I really need a program to figure out who is who in Obama’s highly dysfunctional family.
I prefer Sarah Nobama, mother and barracuda.
Is this the grandmother who allegedly said she witnessed O’s birth in Kenya?
Why is it that 0 doesn’t resemble his Kenyan relatives, IMO?
She didn’t allegedly say it; she said it.
You would be more correct to say “Is this the grandmother who said she witnessed Os alleged birth in Kenya?”
Well, is she the one?
Source for that?
“Is this the grandmother who allegedly said she witnessed O’s birth in Kenya?”
I went and checked, and apparently she is the one.
IS she going back afterwards and her “family”?
Dude had a lot of wives.
I hope she upchucks and starts rattling beads and shaking dead snakes in the air.....on live TV.
Not sure if I would have my dad’s third wife present at one of my children’s birth.
Then, hopefully, some trusty journalist who speaks Swahili will ask her about it!
LOL!
I hope they interview her on tv and she says how great it was for her to witness first hand 0bama’s two greatest days. The day he was inaugurated and the day he was born in Kenya.
Not if she can find 0bama’s aunt who is here illegally.
In Bantu Africa, any sister, a whole or particial sister, is considered to be a "Mother" to the child. They call it an extended family. Simple.
Is this the "Grand Mother" who claims to have been at Barry's birth to an under aged mother, thus not conveying "citizenship" and a Kenyan, British subject?
Will she be allowed to speak to the press to confirm that BHO is not qualified to be our POTUS?
Hopefully, she brought her own body guards.
