Richardson 'hurting' over lost Cabinet post
The Santa Fe New Mexican ^ | January 5, 2009 | Kate Nash

Posted on 01/06/2009 5:55:35 PM PST by CedarDave

Richardson on Sunday took his name out of consideration, saying an ongoing federal investigation could cause an "untenable delay in the confirmation process."

A federal grand jury in Albuquerque reportedly is looking into a possible "pay-to-play" connection between a Beverly Hills financial company's large contributions to Richardson political action committees and nearly $1.5 million the company received for work on a state construction program...

The governor at a news conference Monday explained his decision a little more, saying "the ongoing investigation would have forced an untenable delay in the confirmation process...

~~snip~~

The governor denied any wrongdoing ..."

"As you might expect, I am disappointed in this turn of events," he said. "There were a lot of ways in which I thought I could help the country in this time of financial crisis."

Richardson took few questions at the news conference and declined to answer when asked if his administration did an internal investigation of the situation with CDR.

He also declined to say whether he had hired an attorney, but The Associated Press later reported he has hired a prominent white-collar attorney, Peter Schoenburg.

The governor tried to focus on his tasks at hand, saying ... "My focus is going to be New Mexico."

~~snip~~

During the news conference, Richardson at one point seemed uncharacteristically emotional.

"Yesterday, I was hurting over this decision," he said, pausing between sentences.

"I lost a Cabinet appointment, but I think we have to focus on what people are losing in this country — you know the American people, people in New Mexico are losing jobs, they are losing their savings, they are losing their homes and that's the real tragedy," Richardson said. "You know, mine is minor compared to that."

A little whine with that cheese, Governor?

Another liberal "victim," one of his entirely own making. Playing fast and loose with ethical behavior, whether prohibited or not, will always get one in trouble. In this case King Bill is left paying the piper and we in New Mexico unfortunately have him back in our state once again.

He screwed up every job Clinton gave him. Remember when he was Energy Secy and Senator Byrd ripped him to his face on the floor of the senate over the Wen Ho Lee scandal?

Byrd vehemently said King Bill would never get another job in DC that needed senate approval etc.

I was sure John Sanchez would use that against him when he opposed him for gov. but no just another incompetent NM GOP campaign.

Wasn’t Rush saying that Barry was involved with Richardson in this “pay for play” scandal, too? I’m thinking if Richardson is that broken up about it, maybe he’ll get pissed off enough to drop a dime on Barry, who’s once again getting off scott free...and continues to hog the glory while everone around him goes down for the same thing he skates on.

The hurt he is feeling is from him kicking his own ass over potentially getting caught in some shenanigans that cost him a White House cabinet position.

The only thing that’s hurting him is how Hillary can get away with pay-for-play while he can’t.

Ahh the good ole days in NM .....I remember when Loyd Benson was running for VPOTUS and I was detailed to beautiful down town Shiprock NM as part of the USSS detail ......:o)

Fat Bill showed up to speak to the natives on Loyds behalf on the back of a flatbed. Richardson was 250 pounds of crap in a 150 pound suit of jeans and a cowboy shirt and a hat that didn’t fit. The buttons on that shirt were sooooooooooo stressed we thought ole Loyd could’a been fragged had one of em popped !

Bill cried even back then trying to get the indians to vote for the rats ......

Ya’ll need to bring back that IBM salesman Tony Anoyed ya or something he was called.....LOL !

I was sure John Sanchez would use that against him when he opposed him for gov. but no just another incompetent NM GOP campaign.

The circular firing squad that was the Republican June primary resulted in all three of NM's Republican seats being lost to Democrats. I don't know why Wilson and Pearce couldn't have agreed on who was going to run for Senate to replace Domenici. So by the time all the primary bloodletting stopped we lost all three. Bah!
