Levi Johnston quits oil field job (Libs cost him his job!)
Anchorage Daily News ^ | January 5, 2009 | WESLEY LOY

Levi Johnston, the boyfriend of Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol, has quit his North Slope oil field job over questions about his eligibility to work in an electrical apprenticeship program, Johnston's father said Monday.

Johnston, 18, began working this fall in the Milne Point oil field with ASRC Energy Services Inc., a major Slope contractor.

In a Sunday newspaper column, Anchorage radio talk show host Dan Fagan questioned how Johnston could take part in ASRC's apprenticeship program without a high school diploma.

Fagan said he understood federal regulations require all members of apprenticeship programs to have a diploma. He also questioned whether the governor might have had a hand in getting Johnston into the program.

Palin adamantly denied that Monday.

Johnston's father, Keith Johnston, said the governor had nothing to do with getting Levi the Slope job. Keith Johnston said his own position as an ASRC construction engineer accounts for any help his son received in landing work.

Ridiculous...more likely they will hang around a get into drugs, alcohol and sex. Kids with too much time on their hands...is not a good thing. Also, my wife is a teacher, she does not believe that these sort of laws...no GED until 18 or no license until 18 unless you stay in school do not keep kids in school and are not a good idea.

Why doesn’t he have his diploma? Is he still in high school?

Would you be as forgiving if this was Ted Kennedy's family?

Not anymore. Turnabout is fair, and where in the past I would have looked past private failings and family matters of libs, I don't intend to do so anymore. The treatment of Palin was the last straw. I (like most Freepers) made gracious comments and prayers when Ted was ill or any other Democrat was dying. Unsurprisingly Obama's family was off limits, and Rahm Emanuel is hiding behind his kids.

This is the double standard that has been going on for too long.

Each of those instances you cited (abortion, divorce, out of marriage wedlock) are some of the examples of how we say family values are important, yet find a way to rationalize our failure to meet them.

Again, throughout all the decades we had leading conservatives (Goldwater, Reagan, Gingrich) fail in personal matters or behaving very unconservative... and I never heard (from our side) that these actions were the "single handed" slaying of conservatism.

All I see regarding the Palin family matter, is a loving and normal conservative American family, with problems like thousands of conservative families, being bullied and harrassed by a pack of shakals, where every fuss being blown out of proportion (half of which isn't even true).

You guys are crawling out of the wood work today boy.

NOW you move the goal posts back to their original position with this statement:

The whole thing is about rules set out for an apprenticeship program.

Exactly, COMPANY rules that they chose to either waive or missed with his transfer from one area to the next.

Of course all this has been posted and reposted throughout this thread. READ the damned article before commenting!!!

As well she should! Wow wintertime...I did not know that about you. Congratulations on a job well done.
_____

Unfortunately, wintertime saw my comment as a knock. I don’t much like her vision of the world, but I’ve been reading and responding to her posts now for at least a couple of years. Getting her kids through schooling to get to college by 12 and 13 is quite a feat. It is impressive.

I was interested in hearing her response (still am, wintertime) to why she thought Sarah Palin (someone wintertime clearly admires) was sending her children to the kinds of schools both of you refer to as breeding grounds for communist indoctrination, subjecting to the kinds of horrors wintertime routinely speaks of (no political or religious neutrality). Not the topic of the thread, certainly, but a worthwhile tangent IMO.

You were commenting to me based on something I had said to someone else not you.

KMA if you want to attack me over something not said to you.

"Working on it" as in he's currently attending high school?

Very bad comparison. The Kennedy "family" has gotten away with more crimes than 75% of the country have ever committed!

Start with Uncle Teddy himself. Had I murdered someone I would be rotting in prison, not living the good life off of the taxpayer's backs sitting in a lifetime sInate seat.

While he was an apprentice, he was enrolled in an internet correspondence program with the school to obtain the diploma. Now since he quit the apprenticeship, I guess he’ll finish High School by attending personally again. Either way he is enrolled to finish HS.

2) Levi's dad helped get his apprenticeship, not Governor Palin or Todd.

And how is this different from any apprenticeship position in the US? It has long been a fact that San Francisco plumbers, steamfitters, and electricians sponsor their own kids and nephews into the union. A kid with no connections had no chance.

And the same goes for law school and medical college. sons and daughters of doctors and lawyers always have had a leg up on their clasmates.

Just deal with it. (This comment is not amied at VA roadrunner, but at those who criticize this young father.

Its about a company that gave a kid special privaledge because of his father.

Many companies call that an "employee referral program," and even encourage it, sometimes even with token incentives for the employees.

Also, many college intern programs (I know this is not that, but apprenticeship is close enough) are filled with children of employees.

What's wrong with that? You have a person who has incentive to work, is willing to take an unglamourous job in harsh conditions, has family who also work there. I can't say what the competition for the job is or whom he might have displaced (if your concern is that somebody else was denied a fair shot at the job). How many other blue-collar industries have legacy hires or multi-generational families working there? Textiles, auto plants, factories, mills, foundries? You're surprised that an oil family has several workers at the same company?

What this really is is political collateral damage.

Kids that have to get their dad or mom to find them a job for them ...are LAME.... Thats just a fact of life.

No. That is a fact of YOUR life. Which means it is nothing but your personal opinion. Are you really as bitter as you come across? It's hard to avoid that conclusion, given your comments on this thread.

And while my dad did have his own business, and I worked there a couple of summers in high school, for the record, I went and did my own thing when it was time to get into the workforce and stay there.

Kids that have to get their dad or mom to find them a job for them ...are LAME.... Thats just a fact of life. You evidently did so you can thank mom or dad if you have any success

Its now obvious that the foundation of your irrational argument is based solely on jealousy........how sad. Your father should have been more supportive of you like all the other millions of fathers have done for their children.

As for me, there was no father in my life. I joined the Army, did my time then moved on..............Even tho I found my own career without any help from a friend or family member, I certainly don't feel any jealousy for those who have.

Considering the tone of your posts, my only suggestion to you is therapy. Find someone to talk with, to share your innermost thoughts and hostilities with. Unburden yourself Dude! Just because your life may have sucked doesn't mean that everyone elses has to.

Good luck my friend!

Uhmmm....thats fine if a company says you dont have to have a "diploma" but this one had that rule.

And sure it benefits the spin machine but had to be expected sooner or later.

Most of the goobers on this thread are all for bending the rules for themselves but scream like babies because the dems are doing the same thing.

What was this company going to do when the next kid came up and said he wanted in without a diploma..tell him no?

It all boils down to the fact that Sarah jumped into the limelght based on taking down the corrupt rule breakers.

Then she stood on stage before the world and challeneged and insulted the media (and we cheered).

So when the media starts going through her and herr families garbage its not unexpected!

It may not be this kid's fault but its his reality now so he has to deal with it.
