Levi Johnston quits oil field job (Libs cost him his job!)
Anchorage Daily News ^ | January 5, 2009 | WESLEY LOY

Levi Johnston, the boyfriend of Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol, has quit his North Slope oil field job over questions about his eligibility to work in an electrical apprenticeship program, Johnston's father said Monday.

Johnston, 18, began working this fall in the Milne Point oil field with ASRC Energy Services Inc., a major Slope contractor.

In a Sunday newspaper column, Anchorage radio talk show host Dan Fagan questioned how Johnston could take part in ASRC's apprenticeship program without a high school diploma.

Fagan said he understood federal regulations require all members of apprenticeship programs to have a diploma. He also questioned whether the governor might have had a hand in getting Johnston into the program.

Palin adamantly denied that Monday.

Johnston's father, Keith Johnston, said the governor had nothing to do with getting Levi the Slope job. Keith Johnston said his own position as an ASRC construction engineer accounts for any help his son received in landing work.

“I respect a GED a lot more than most HS diplomas.” Just out of curiosity, why?

If I had to guess, I'd say "social promotions."

You must have a diploma or GED to be accepted into the IBEW apprenticeship program...those are the RULES. It makes me laugh, all the BS about special interest here yet from what I can gather from the posts.... no one thinks its a “special interest” to get THEIR kid a job before someone else. What bullshit. lmao

You are all welcome.

Simply trying to inform people on the background of those attacking Governor Palin.

Wintertime wears the fact that she homeschooled and still was a career woman on her sleeve.

As well she should! Wow wintertime...I did not know that about you. Congratulations on a job well done.

Yeah, right.

Be a good little boy, sit there and follow allll those little rules and regulations.....and be steamrolled.

Conservatives have got to learn that when you're in an asymmetrical conflict, going by the "rules" will get you killed.

Have fun spitting into the wind.

Oh, please. Do you really expect Non-Sequitur to back up anything that he claims? That's just not his M.O.

No, I expect nothing from N-S and I'm sure I will not be disappointed!
I have noticed that s/he spews forth garbage made out of thin air and rarely does anyone call him/her on it. Decided it was high time he was confronted.

Good luck on that link you are waiting for. ;*)

If any Democrat politician’s teenage daughter had gotten knocked up by a teenage high school dropout whose mother is a drug dealer, conservatives would be howling endlessly about how the girl’s parents were both too busy with their careers to bother raising their children properly. Lack of family values, destroying the fabric of society, etc, etc.

Goldwater's daughter aborted, Reagan divorced and remarried, (as did Gingrich) and has a son who is a flaming liberal, yet somehow none of these private failings are regarded as " single handedly collapsing the few remaining support columns of conservatives".

You single out Palin, because for some petty or political reason you dislike her. You might just as well admit it.

What does tthat have to do with this thread? The whole thing is about rules set out for an apprenticeship program.

This kid was enrolled in this program in spite of the ruiles. It was pointed out and he quit and is going to finish school then reapply.

Some lib cost an 18-yr old father his job just to smear Sarah Palin. This “talk show host” needs a visit from some oilfield workers. What a weasel.

NO...this whole thing is about a hack in Anchorage with an ax to grind against the Palins, who just published an inflammatory column that hurt this young man's employment, which was none of Fagan's business.

No its not. Its about a company that gave a kid special privaledge because of his father. The media knows this kid isnt a grad and points it out. I agree its trivial as far as news goes but he is breaking some rules the program set.

You guys whining about nothing.

I wasn't really expecting to get one since, as you say, N-S is spewing something made out of thin air. I just got a little sick and tired of it.

I'm simply stating we have for years stood on the mantle of family values.

Each of those instances you cited (abortion, divorce, out of marriage wedlock) are some of the examples of how we say family values are important, yet find a way to rationalize our failure to meet them.

Again, go to any Christian book store and open a book on family matters. What examples do those books give as to the contribution of declining family values in general and or the cause of specific outcomes? Many causative issues are similar to how Palin's family lives.

If I am singling out Palin as you described, you are exempting her from certain conservative standards because you do like her.

Would you be as forgiving if this was Ted Kennedy's family?

When I first got into the trade (70s) I got bumped 5 or 6 time because somebody’s daddy worked out of our hall and his kid needed a job, even though I had more experience. It happened again in the 80s and 90s when I had 5 kids to feed. I have no pity (actually quite a bit of hate) for anyone who wants to jump the fence because mom and dad have connections. My kids ate oatmeal for a month one time.)Didnt want no guberment help) Screw favoritism.
