Levi Johnston, the boyfriend of Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol, has quit his North Slope oil field job over questions about his eligibility to work in an electrical apprenticeship program, Johnston's father said Monday.
Johnston, 18, began working this fall in the Milne Point oil field with ASRC Energy Services Inc., a major Slope contractor.
In a Sunday newspaper column, Anchorage radio talk show host Dan Fagan questioned how Johnston could take part in ASRC's apprenticeship program without a high school diploma.
Fagan said he understood federal regulations require all members of apprenticeship programs to have a diploma. He also questioned whether the governor might have had a hand in getting Johnston into the program.
Palin adamantly denied that Monday.
Johnston's father, Keith Johnston, said the governor had nothing to do with getting Levi the Slope job. Keith Johnston said his own position as an ASRC construction engineer accounts for any help his son received in landing work.

In my state they will not let you take the exam until the applicant is 18.
In my state every few years there is a bill to allow any child of any age permission to take the GED. Our COMMUNIST teachers fight this with everything they've got!
If any child of any age could take the GED. Kids would take it, leave school, and having a GED qualifies them to apply for all the state and government scholarship and loan programs. Without the GED, the under aged child can not get college money.
If any child of any age could take the GED can you image the hemorrhaging of students from our MARXST government school prison camps?

My homeschooled kids started college at 13, 12, and 13. I've been all through this GED stuff. Thankfully, we had the means to simply pay full fare on the tuition.

My uncle dropped out of high school because it bored him. He took and passed the entrance exam to Harvard and earned an MBA. This was back in the 1950’s when admissions were actually decided on things such as exam scores. Long story short is that he did well. Three of his kids are now college professors, one is an MD.
I think rules are rules and the kid shouldn't have been in the program. I don't know if his father's influence was improper -- often that stuff is perfectly fine. I'm put in mind of the time my wife, who was working in a school cafeteria, was asked by a coworker if our college student daughter wanted a summer job in a big company. The daughter accepted - and when she started work she was immediately asked what connections she'd had to get the job! She mentioned the name of the husband of that coworker - and everyone said, "Oh." (Story seems strange only in the sense that I don't know why his wife was working - not for the money, evidently).Again, this is not about Gov. Palin at all. It's not about Republicans at all. However, the GOP would be advised to oppose ANY impropriety ANYWHERE. No improper influence, no corruption, no rule breaking. The GOP should have no tolerance for any of it.
The Dempocrats are going to hand us about 9732 instances of corruption and rule breaking. But all of that will be washed away if the media can find 5 instances of Republican malfeasance. Republicans need to be very careful about shrugging at impropriety.
The moral of the story is that as far as the Democrats are concerned, Levi Johnston cannot legitimately succeed. Anyone who gives him a break will be accused of doing a favor for Sarah Palin.It puts me in mind, somehow, of the media coverage of the runnup to the Oklahoma-Florida BCS game. There you have a bunch of teenagers, essentially, put in a pressure cooker media event - and have their words put in the worst possible light by reporters. It sounds like Levi Johnston got no more of a break than wouldn't make you blink an eye if you learned that any high school quarterback in the country got it. But if it's Sarah Palin's grandson's father, it's a federal case.
There’s always something missing in stories about the Palin family. In this case, having Levi working out in the oil fields doesn’t fit with the damage control Sarah is trying to implement re her family’s reputation for family values. Fact is, Bristol got pregnant by a high school drop-out, and was working out in the oil fields — not a “day job”. Notice that Sarah held a press conference a few days ago to protest the characterization of Levi as a “drop-out” even though that’s exactly what he was (apparently they’ve recently shoved him into community college). Sarah has also been pushing the image of Bristol and Levi as a beautiful young couple, deeply in love, and eagerly welcoming a baby into their beautiful little family. Having drop-out/accidental father Levi off in the oil fields full time, while Bristol stays home as the unwed, unemployed, teenage mother she is, just doesn’t make for the right image.

It is a serious test that does prove that the applicant **really** does know something. A high school diploma is not even a guarantee that the student can read or do the most simple arithmetic.

By the way, in my business I would not hire anyone unless they had at least some community college, and these were for jobs that 8th grade grads of my parent's day could have **easily** mastered.
I simply wasted too much time interviewing H.S. grads who could not read beyond the most hauling level.

In Florida (and probably many other states as well), one of the requirements is literally to WAIT. Apparently the public school bureaucracy and teacher unions, ever focused on keeping as many "students" enrolled as possible, so they can rake in the per-student money from the taxpayers, prohibit students from taking the GRE before the date when they would have graduated from high school. In other words, if a kid is able to pass the GED after 10th grade, tough; he simply has to wait 2 more years to be allowed to take it. They figure that this will make more kids hang around high school longer, since their employment options with neither GED nor diploma are very limited, and there iwll often be parental pressure not to be a "drop-out".
Speaking of breaking the rules, has Barry’s illegal alien aunt and any other illegal alien relatives of his been deported yet? If not, why not?

To be fair Sarah opened the door herself by claiming that Levi wasn’t a high school dropout. It’s a matter of semantics. Levi doesn’t have a high school diploma yet. If I detect one weakness that Sarah has is that she has a difficult time forseeing or comprehending the possible nefarious tactics that the MSM will employ to destroy her family and ultimately her. Sarah needs to bring advisors on board who are fully aware of the lengths that the MSM will resort to destroy her. Again Sarah opened the door to this subject herself and the MSM is walking right through and occupying her house like an unwelcome guest.

While not accusing anyone of lying, I'm still waiting for Non-Sequitur to post a link to the baby pictures that he claimed were in the last issue of People magazine. I've asked several times for that link as well as for any substantiation at all for his claim that the money offered was in the six-figure range. He's posted several times since those requests and appears to be ignoring them.
