Common Sense Goes Up In Smoke
Boston Herald ^ | January 6, 2009 | Michael Graham

Posted on 01/06/2009 5:17:16 AM PST by suspects

Your “Only In Massachusetts” puzzler of the day:

Boston cops kick in a door and find three people: An illegal immigrant living in subsidized housing; a 16-year-old girl smoking a joint; and a 20-year-old Marine drinking a Miller Lite to celebrate his safe return from a second tour of Iraq.

Question: Of these three lawbreakers, who is the only one arrested?

Answer that question, and you’ll know everything you need to know about America’s bluest state.

The obvious answer - obvious to anyone who’s lived in Massachusetts more than a week - is the Miller Lite Marine. What’s a violation of our national border security or teens doing drugs compared to an adult with a low-calorie malt beverage?

Cuff him, boys!

The purpose of criminal law is to prohibit behavior society deems too dangerous to allow. Smoking pot, like illegal immigration, is no longer on that list. But college keg parties are. Does this make sense to anyone who isn’t already invoking his herbivorous Question 2 rights?

What is the danger presented by 19-year-olds drinking Natty Bo? And is it truly greater than the potential dangers from teen pot smokers and border-breaking coyotes?

In Massachusetts, there is zero tolerance for teen drinking. Meanwhile, criminal immigrants aren’t just “allowed” to take jobs from blue-collar Americans and rip off taxpayers - they’re encouraged to. Public housing is open to them, as is the public payroll.

Look for the headline “Martha Coakley prosecutes criminal immigrants” sometime after you read “Chuck Turner to model Fruit of the Loom.”

And as for smoking pot, every high schooler in Massachusetts now knows the motto “Booze is Batty - Just Roll A Fatty!”

Seriously, what kid is dumb enough to risk losing driving privileges or a criminal record over a six of Schaefer Light? Why drink bad...

New England should be purged from the Union. Those states are simply not required and are in fact detrimental

Honestly, neither the teen dopehead or the underage drinker should have been arrested. And, FWIW, the illegal alien shouldn’t be prosecuted (deportation is enough) until Boston gets its gang, murder and hard drug problems under control.

That’s OK though. Our “rulers” will make a buck off of the beer-drinking Marine.

In 1776 did we omit colonies that had to many loyal to england or did we fight for them regardless. Using your logic many more states then just the new england states would have to go.

Maybe we should have. Right now I think we should throw out many states and let them go form their own imperfect union. All of the liberals can move to them and leave me alone.

You mean that it is illegal for a minor to drink alcohol in a private dwelling?

“What is the danger presented by 19-year-olds drinking Natty Bo?”

It’s illegal. If we are to sit in judgement of everyone, then this has to be judged also. It’s illegal. End of story.

Back in the old days when cops only needed a high school diploma to join the force, The cop would have used his head and just told the vet to pour out the beer and get lost. Now that they all are supposed to have a degree, they all want to be chiefs. So lets arrest people for dumb stuff and make it look like your doing something. But if you see a gang banger, whoops time to go and coop. Not all cops are like this, but a significant amount are. Just laziness.

The law only cares about honorable people doing unlawful things. This is because only honorable people matter to society. The others do not, and as such are expendable.

In the long run, by ignoring bad behavior among the unimportant, it encourages them to harm themselves and each other.

New England should be purged from the Union.

As if there are no liberals, or liberal agendas in your state. Sit down and STFU.

“New England should be purged from the Union. Those states are simply not required and are in fact detrimental”

I would suggest just dumping MA, CT and RI then militarizing the borders of NH, VT & ME — while trending blue these states have small populations and without the influence from the south would be just fine.

Why can't we have a law as simple as if you are in the armed forces of the United States (ID car required), the legal drinking age is 18?

Right now I think we should throw out many states and let them go form their own imperfect union.

When you figure out who "we" is, and from what unique and distinct authority they derive this power, let me know. Until then, I suggest anyone considering making statements such as this, predicate it with sarcasm tags, lest you look like the fool that you are.

its bad law - the marine should fight the case under equal protection under the law. he has a case of age bias, especially since he is an adult under the law.

What I’m saying is that the core of northern New England is traditional conservative/”live and let live”

I’m also saying that if MA were not so damn close - for jobs, “culture” entertainment, etc. that these people would never have come north in the first place.

Every year I hope for a longer colder darker winter. Maybe Mother nature can do what the good people of norther NE could not.

“New England should be purged from the Union. Those states are simply not required and are in fact detrimental”

When the country breaks up, the New England states will join with the Maritime Provinces of [former] Canada to become one nation: “Newtopia”.

No, the drinking age should be 18.....you know....when society has deemed you an "adult".

.....and weed should be as legal as alcohol.
